You'll probably want to perform the Scenix mod either way, then you can use either the Scenix or the '84 and it seemed to make the oscillator more stable on mine with the '84. As I recall I lowered the value of a series resistor in the oscillator circuit (think it was from 10K to 8.2K) to bring the frequency up a bit... the upper limit of adjustment would lock, but it wasn't quite fast enough so the picture had a "watery" jitter. The value change did the trick.

Isn't the CFT2254 a Jerrold or GI box? If you're on an SA system then an '84 running the Rev7T1D2 code should do the trick. It uses the presence of split sync to invert the video. There is also some Scenix code that does this as well. So you can try them both if you like and see how they work although I'm somewhat partial to the PIC version of that code myself. :)
