Not quite, actually I was thinking that the comparator in the F628 might allow you to eliminate the LM339. You still need to either use the mode flags or split-sync as a flag to determine the video mode. Using the line 260/16 info to determine whether the video is scrambled or not is somewhat inconclusive. According to the info I have, when there is no video or burst inversion but the sync is shifted, there are no unusual edges on those lines. I guess the sync suppression does give you an extra positive edge that isn't there normally though. Using that along with the mode flag info would probably let you determine all modes.

I just picked up a really nice CRO (Tektronix 2465A) but we no longer have analog cable! DirecTV is too nice, I don't think I could ever go back, even if I used the 3Chip to get the channels for free (and I would never do that...8)
