I have no experience with cable systems but it seems the 'modify' commands are addressed to individual boxes by their ESNs to change the entitlements. So you need to know the ESN or change it a valid default number first (magicboot program). Once you're entitled to view a channel, the box takes care of the descrambling for you - just need to prevent any 'bad' modify commands getting in. There are sites with pictures and sample code for 'test' chips to suit many of these units eg www.pipmaster.ic24.net
