Well it was worth a try.
BTW I wouldn't increase the original cap with the S&H connected - sort of defeats the idea of fast acting AGC response. Simply placing 47uF in parallel with the original cap with no S&H connection should give a strong improvement if the problem is in fact here.
Try in parallel and from the pin to ground as the the original ccts usually have a series resistor to ground (to set the RC time constant).
