Subject: What to do when babies are born?

Well my teacher got 2 birds and they laid 7 eggs 1 survived
after that he gave the parants to me.But when Lucky(the chick) was just born he took him straight away.now they might be laying eggs again and im wondering cause itworked so well 4 him should i do the same? and if i do what do i do help me im clueless!
