Subject: Cocketial Breeding Suggestions

If you are having trouble breeding your cocketials, than have a look at there living space.

My cocketials always had eggs every year(around 5-8 eggs), but they never succesfuly hatched them or they broke them.

Then I tried planting native trees and exotic fruit trees in their cage (just to make them feel at home). They loved this and laid 11 eggs!!! Then they smashed them all except one.
I ended up taking the nesting box out of the cage and put a new one in with wood shavings in the bottom.
Then they laid 9 more eggs I was amazed to see she could have so many eggs.
Then she got very broody and protective of her eggs. So did the male!
around 3 weeks later I went to go see how the eggs were going and thinking to myself she probablly has smashed them! But as I looked into the nest box to my surprise their was 10 naked and blind baby cocketials! She had finaly hatched some eggs and 10 thats amazing!
They are now 5.5 weeks old and flying around a bit!
So I think the answer to breeding cocketials is their surroundings!

Regards,
J. Eadie
