Subject: Is a cockatail right for me? I NEED HELP!

I just bought two parakeets, and the worst happened, they got sick and one of them died and the other one we are nurishing back to health, but I don't think a parakeet is my kind of bird. I love to play and cuddle with them and I am always alert of their food and water, but they are just way too fragile for me, so if you could pretty please help me??
