O novo Estado da Guanabara já havia conquistado 3 títulos de Miss Brasil (1960, 1965, 1966), um segundo lugar memorável com Vera Lúcia Couto em 1964 e chegou 3 vezes em terceiro lugar (61,62,63).


Em 1967,a hegemonia carioca era absoluta no Miss Brasil e havia a expectativa de uma terceira vitória consecutiva. A pressão era grande sobre Vera Lúcia Castro, uma linda morena.

Vera Lúcia (nome típico de miss nos anos 60), foi semifinalista no Miss Brasil 1967, vencido pela paulista Carmem Silvia Ramasco, apesar do favoritismo de Anísia Gasparina da Fonseca, Miss Brasília, 4a. colocada.

Mesmo sem ter chegado a finalista, Vera Lúcia Castro foi uma das misses mais marcantes de 1967.
