Infelizmente os resultados são definitivos mas chego a conclusão que a maioria dos países participantes ficam em
dúvida quais os critérios para se eleger uma Miss Mundo ou é
tudo politicagem.
Vale a pena o Sr. Osmel fazer um concurso em separado para
se eleger a representante venezuelana para o miss Mundo visto que nos últimos anos suas candidatas não tem sido classificadas?
Depois de tanto trabalho e depois de se mobilizar beldades de todo o país, vale a pena mandar uma candidata venezuelana belíssima para o Miss Mundo?
E pensar que a Colômbia e Venezuela tinham sempre suas candidatas classificadas.
Chega se a uma conclusão óbivia de que o lugar onde se realiza o concurso influência muito nos resultados finais ou os aspectos financeiros comprar uma vaga nas semi finalistas.
Ora quando a TV indiana transmite o evento vemos o resultado absurdo da eleição de Prianka quando ela deu uma resposta pífia que não poderia tê-la elegido.
Estranho mais quando a Miss África do Sul ser classificada
quando a mesma nem chegou as semifinalistas no Miss Universo.
No Miss Universo as mais cotadas chegam às finais e só não entram todas as grandes favoritas devido a vaga de 10 posições.
As pessoas ficam sempre aparentemente cansadas de ver os mesmos países ser selecionados mas o óbvio tem que ser feito, certo?
Numa das entrevistas que o Sr. Osmel deu para a CBS latina
ele dizia que quando uma miss de seu país não fosse classificada dizia que poderiam preparar uma ambulância para levá-lo ao hospital.Já deve estar em coma nessas alturas.
O lado positivo foi ter sido noticiado no jornal nacional de sábado quando não se têm muitas notícias relevantes a vitória da primeira negra no concurso de Miss Mundo.
Mostraram também a representante chinesa. Só que disseram que foi a primeira vez que uma representante deste país tinha participado deste concurso. Ledo engano. A China já participou uma vez alguns anos anteriores.
Para quem gosta de colecionar sôbre misses comprem a Caras
desta semana com o Gugu na capa onde foi feita uma longa e
bem ilustrada reportagem com Adalgisa Colômbo em sua casa.

Eu me lembro que no ano passado houve um certo espanto com os resultados do MISS MUNDO. A “missologia” se movimentou com o grupo nada ortodoxa de finalistas e o zum-zum-zum foi geral. Por isso resolvi este ano não fazer qualquer lista de prováveis finalistas. Alguma coisa me dizia – e cheguei a comentar com alguns amigos daqui – que a vitoriosa seria uma negra africana, apesar de eu me inclinar mais para Tanzânia. Nada contra Miss Nigéria, mas achava que Julia Morley que tanto exige concursos separados, não iria escolher uma TOP 10 do Miss Universo.

O QUE JULIA MORLEY PROCURA?

Ontem fiquei meio atônito com a lista das TOP 10 e TOP 5. Cheguei a dizer tinha dado loucura em Sun City. Mas depois que um concurso de beleza termina, o melhor mesmo é tomar um bom balde de água fria na cabeça. Não adianta esquentar os neurônios, resultado final é definitivo.
Entretanto, o quinteto final é um grupo sem dúvida diferente e intrigante. Vai exigir que os “missólogos” revejam conceitos de beleza, joguem fora a famosa tabela de Vincent Trota e adicionem ao julgamento estético, outros itens que expliquem como a Nicarágua pode suplantar a Venezuela na América Latina, Aruba ameaçar a emergência boricua no Caribe ou a China suplantar a hegemonia indiana na Ásia. Talvez por que, num concurso que reúne 96 países, seja possível entender que beleza não tem regras ou padrões determinados, podendo ser tão diversa quanto à própria cultura destas mesmas 96 candidatas. Entender as diferenças é muito mais difícil do que assimilar o óbvio.

Quanto à Nigéria, vale lembrar que a escolha de Agbani Darego coloca no mapa um país de mais de 125 milhões de habitantes numa área pouco superior a do estado do Mato Grosso. Em que o Islamismo corresponde a 47,2% da população, contra 34,5% de cristãos e 18% de crenças tradicionais. Desde de 1983 o governo é militar e a renda per capita é de US$ 1.200. E, que etnias como haussas, iorubas e ibos compõe uma maioria frente de no mínimo mais nove grupos diferentes. Talvez muitos negros que circulem na Bahia tragam sangue nigeriano nas veias, pois foi do Golfo de Guiné que vieram muitos dos escravos destinados àquela área.

Mesmo surpreso estou contente com a vitória de Agbani. Não importa que ela tenha mais tipo para passarela de moda, que não faça a linha miss, que jamais seria contratada pelo Sargentelli, ou que não desbanque Naomi Campbell. Importa que é bonita e sem dúvida fará um belo trabalho como Miss Mundo. Podemos até não estar satisfeitos como fãs de concurso, mas deveríamos estar-lo sabendo que, talvez, as crianças na África sofrerão menos. Que a Nicarágua depois de tantas tragédias poderá se regozijar um pouco no superfulo, que Aruba vai ter mais um motivo para se autodenominar ONE HAPPY ISLANDS e que a China, parece estar se alinhando no liberalismo. E isto não é ideologia é simplesmente humanitário.

Vendo estas fotos confirma como o Miss Mundo é fraquinho
e uma grande farsa.
Nem se compara a beleza infinita de Wendy ou Jannelle.
Mesmo a Mpule é melhor que Miss Nigeria.
Cada vez mais confirmam que este concurso é imprevisível
nos resultados. Resultados a cada ano mais estranhos aos
missólogos.
Analisando o vestido verde, o que ela usou no Miss Universo era muito melhor.
Há de lembrar que a maioria dos internautas que comentavam,
criticaram o vestido vermelho e seu corpo magro sem curvas
usando o maiô.
Ela poderia ser uma modelo de passarela tranquilo.
desfila bem, sorríso bonito mas não é material para vencer
um concurso de misses.
Acho que este ano os países participantes pederam tempo em
escolher candidatas para este título e ficaram a ver navios.

Exatamente Marcos. A Nigeriana poderia se sair muito bem, sendo uma modelo de passarela, ou algo em torno da moda. Agora, vir a ser coroada MISS MUNDO, é de tirar o fôlego e a nossa paciência. Como pode, a representante do CHILE, ser a mais cotada, em todas as bolsas de apostas do mundo, e ficar ausente, do grupo das finalistas. A miss COLÔMBIA, um rosto digno de princesa. Venezuela, podem falar o que quiserem, mas todas são MARAVILHOSAS. É mais uma forma de desvinculação, das tradicionais favoritas, e uma forma pouco honesta, de fazer "média", com o povo Africano. Esta é uma das questões mais importantes da contemporaneidade. Teóricos do campo da comunicação e das ciências da informação têm realizado dezenas de congressos sobre o tema nos últimos anos. Pois esta questão foi colocada a todas as candidatas ao Miss Mundo 2001.
Há 20 anos atrás uma pergunta semelhante não seria feita e provavelmente várias vencedoras de um Miss Universo e um Miss Mundo não conseguiriam responder de forma articulada.



A bela Miss Costa Rica, Piarella Peralta, foi a que mais impressionou Mr. Conrad Viedge, Diretor de Admissão do Programa de MBA da Witz Business School, University of the Witwatersrand.
Piarella ganhou como prêmio uma bolsa de estudos da Hawaii Pacific University.
Poderia ter chegado a top 10, como tantas outras porque além de inteligente é belíssima. No entanto, este é um prêmio importante também para a América Latina, uma região do mundo com tantos problemas de infra-estrutura educacional.
Talvez só depois de assistir o vídeo seja possível compreender melhor os resultados do Miss Mundo. De qualquer forma, um concurso que faz esta pergunta às candidatas parece estar realmente querendo algo mais do que a aquilo que se consagrou como "beleza de miss" até meados dos anos 90.

Acredito que a vitória da Nigeriana foi justíssima e, com certeza, o vice da representante de Aruba valorizou ainda mais o concurso. Certamente que não eram poucos os que já estavam cansandos do óbvio: Venezuela, EUA, Índia. Felizmente, com este Miss Mundo,tivemos uma guinada na Geopolítica do concurso. Além de belíssimas, Aruba e Nigeria soam mais naturais. Fantasticas. Outras que vieram enriquecer o concurso foram: Escócia, Ucrânia, Africa do Sul, Nicaragua, China e Rússia. Estou torcendo para que, finalmente, os concursos de miss saiam do lugar comum

Ela foi top 10 no Miss Universo 2001, mas era a mais fraquinha de todas em traje de banho embora seja bonita.Têm mais o tipo model que miss.
Pelo resultado se confirma a colher de chá que deram a uma africana para garantir mercado para atrair candidatas africanas. Acho injusto isso quando misses de todas as partes do mundo vão à África do Sul e disputar um título que sempre têm resultados esquisitos.
Pura marmelada.
Onde foi parar o favoritísmo de nossa Joyce tão cantada aquí?
Valeu o que nisso tudo. Esse concurso é uma farsa nos resultados.
Única vantagem que têm é ter muitas candidatas.
Se ela foi somente semifinalista no MIss Universo e agora ser Miss Mundo indica que que a nova Miss Mundo é infinitamente inferior a Denise Quinones.

Agbani Darego is Not Only the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria; She is Also One of the 10 Most Beautiful Girls in the World. Kelechi Obasi Reports>

The first thing that strikes you is her height, a nearly 6ft tall, leggy and slim-figure beauty. Without contest, she'd go places in a modelling career and that is what started her walk to claim the coveted Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) crown. "I had always wanted to be a model", confessed Agbani Darego, the current holder of the title of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, and by Miss Universe standards, one of the 10 most beautiful girls in the world.

All it took for the Port Harcourt, Rivers State-born Agbani to put her modelling career dreams on hold, was a chance meeting with the pageant manager of the MBGN contest, Joan Ibuzor at the MNET Face of Africa contest screening in Nigeria where Darego was incidentally among the seven finalists. Ibuzor encouraged her and another friend to participate in the contest. Agbani swallowed the bait and the rest is history.

Repeating her exploits on the international scene was however, no mean feat for the 18-year-old looker. At the Miss Universe contest held in Puerto Rico, she had to exude all the charm, grace and intellect needed to out class 76 other world class beauty queens vying for the crown. Before she bowed out gracefully at the semi-final stage, Agbani had won the hearts of the Puerto Ricans and other watchers of the annual beauty fest. On the internet polls, she had outscored contestants from Greece, Brazil and even Miss Puerto Rico who eventually took the crown.

This, and more support from American billionaire, Donald Trump and supermodel Naomi Campbell, obviously boosted the Nigerian queen's confidence. But she was deflated where she didn't make the final five: "I knew I had an even chance of winning and my confidence was bolstered by the internet results as well as by comments of people, including television personalities," Agbani said. But Agbani is not complaining. Like the cliche says, she has killed two birds with one stone. Her winning the MBGN crown qualified her for the Miss Universe pageant. She has not only ticked some experience under her sash, but also a shot at the Miss World contest, later in November this year. What's more, her modelling career plans seem to have been revived as she is set to jet to New York to put final touches to negotiating a modelling contract with Trump or Campbell.

So, Agbani is eating her cake and still having it, and she is eternally grateful to her dad and maternal grandmother who have served as role models and pillars in her young life. You can see the hurt in her eyes when she says her mum is late. As a result of her new found fame and fortune, which undoubtedly will take her far from the shores of her fatherland, the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where she is a Mathematics and Computer Science undergraduate, might soon lose one of its students, but Agbani is not chucking her books in the dustbin. She wishes to continue her education wherever her good fortune takes her. For those men who are crazy about "yellow sisi", (light skinned ladies) and think that skin complexion plays a major role in the definition of beauty, this queen is not on your side. Hear her; "if complexion was the criterion. I don't think I would have made it to the top 10. I don't believe it matters how fair or dark you are." And to prove this, she flaunts a fearless chocolate-brown skin, that any virile man would desire to touch. However, rather than the flood of love advances from the male-folk that one would expect for a stunning beauty like Agbani, she maintains that she does not even have "the boyfriend."

Probably, the reason for this is the spectre of scandals which has assumed the position of side kick of beauty queens from the Americas to Africa like Vanessa Williams, and recently the dethroned Miss Nigeria, Valerie Ama Peterside. Darego, however, is certain that she would not drink from the cup of controversy, and to keep herself busy and contribute to the society, she wants to focus on children; "I have decided to carry out a pet project on child abuse and trafficking. That is what I have decided to do, though I had initially thought of doing something on women trafficking, but I later changed my mind, because I believe that child abuse is the root of all these problems that later manifest in life," and she hopes that she can get good sponsorship from the well meaning Nigerian public.

Critics of beauty pageants allege that such contests are a show of depravity, that such shows debase womanhood, and that girls who participate in beauty contests are morally bankrupt, as they are expected to display ample parts of their bodies before audiences. Others too, argue that the lives of beauty queens become exposed to public focus and that they cannot enjoy their privacy any longer. The MBGN does not agree, and she declares that it depends on the individual. To those who might think she is wayward, Agbani replies that she has seen the light: "I am a strong Christian. In fact, I am born-again." Life as a celebrity has not altered her world view either, and everything is the same for her, no airs, no pretences, and no plastic lifestyle, as she confesses that "it is basically the same thing. I'm a much stronger person inside than my femininity depicts." Who could be prouder than the "Queen Mother" herself, Joan Ibuzor.

Agbani is not only her second MBGN, but also the most successful so far, as the first Nigerian beauty queen to qualify for the final 10 in the history of the Miss Universe competition. What's more, Agbani is the only black and African contestant to make it to the top 10 category. For her, it is a dream come true. It is even more than just a realised dream for this shy, somewhat introverted and fast talking beauty queen. What with a prize money of N1 million as MBGN, a chauffeur driven saloon car, the chance to achieve international celebrity status, a prospective multi-thousand dollar modelling contract and other mouth watering perks, beautiful Agbani Darego not only has the sky as the limit, but also the world under her feet.

Much as she had the beauty and all it took to win the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria crown, many of those who saw her a few days to the contest did not give her any chance because they felt she didn't have enough confidence to win the crown. On D-day at the Eko Le Meridien however, Agbani Darego of Nigeria pulled a surprise on all those who had written her off by winning the crown and beating 18 other contestants, hands down.

Yet again, when she was announced the 2001 Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, a raucous cheer of approval showed that the judges had done a great job. The young queen who was discovered by the pageant manager at the screening of M-net Face of Africa held in Lagos had another surprise package for the world at the recent Miss Universe pageant held in Puerto Rico; Agbani made history when she emerged one of the top ten. And is no mean feat considering that no other Nigerian before her ever got that far. She also emerged the Miss Favourite Face on the Internet.

Talking to her was fun, even the weather was inviting. Right there at the Silverbird office, she was dutifully waiting to have the interview, which has become an everyday routine for her. Ever since she came back from Miss Universe it has being one interview after the other. As you begin your interview you discover that though she is young, Agbani knows her onions, she is not the type to be pushed around. Much as she takes all instructions from her chaperon and the pageant manager, the beauty queen knows what is good for her and tells them so when there is need for it. After been crowed queen Agbani who lives with her parents in Port Harcourt needed to relocate to Lagos so as to be able to perform her queenly duties was offered a room at the Domino Guest House but she declined the offer and opted to stay with her aunt in Surulere. Her good up bringing tells for itself, not withstanding the crown Agbani is still very respectful. On seeing you, she immediately stands up from her seat and welcomes you. The chaperon herself looks very young and you can't help but wonder which one of them needs to be chaperoned. But that does not affect the closeness between the pair as they were both engaged in an ear tight conversation.

Going to the Miss Universe was a lifetime experience for Agbani who said she made a lot of friends. "It was really wonderful and very challenging it was not an easy contest with all those beautiful women we were 78 in member and we all had great fun." Agbani said she meet a lot of stars at the pageant. For someone who was said not have had enough confidence a few days before the pageant, how was the queen able to gain all the confidence, which she then exhibited? Looking at you straight in the eye she simply tells you, "I did what I had to do."

The queen is fully dressed in her regalia and you wonder if it was for the interview. As if sensing your thought the pageant manager quickly informs you that she had just returned from the America embassy, she was billed to leave the country to keep an appointment in New York with Donald Tramp the owner of the Miss Universe pageant. Tramp management is planning on managing Agbani for a modeling career. Tramp management is a big modeling agency, which manages Super models like Naomi Campbell and Kate Moses. The queen who is currently one of Collectibles models says she had always loved modeling and would like to go into modeling full time. If the deal with Tramp management polls through she will gladly take it but it will not be at the expense of her education. "I will not give up my schooling for modeling I'll rather combine both of them". How does the part one Computer Science and Mathematics student of the University of Port Harcourt intends to do knowing that whatever modeling job Tramp management gets for her will be in America. Looking very strong willed Agbani tells you that she would find a way of studying further in America. Currently universities are on strike so Agbani is not having any problem what will she do when they call it off. The pageant manager answers before the six footer could say anything. The queen she said will go back to school and will only come to Lagos when she is needed for official duties.

After the Tramp appointment Agbani will be flying to Spain to join Naomi Campbell and other super models in modelling for a fund raising for Nelson Mandela's trust fund for children. This she say is her own contribution to the less privileged children of the world. Apart from offering her services free of charge she intends to come back home and also source for founds for the less privileged of the Nigerian society, that she says will be her project. "As a growing child the Abomena born queen says she saw a lot of children fall sick and eventually died because of the pollution coming from oil companies. Though she did not grow up in the village and hardly visits there she knows what the children go through and intends to use her reign as queen to help the underprivileged children. How does she intend to do is, you'd ask. She hopes to be a spokesperson for these children by going to both multinational and national organizations raising founds and materials for the Nigerian child. The sourced founds and materials will be sent to all the registered orphanages and less privileged homes around the country. There are so many children on the streets that need help but it has to be done the right way. She also hopes to stop child trafficking, which was getting very rampant in this part of the world. In the last few months, a lot of such cases have being recorded; Bisket and the Jonathan Akpoborie cases helped to further the choice of her project. She wanted to campaign against women trafficking but with all the story going on here and there about children been sold into slavery Agbani and her organisers decided to change the project. They felt it would be better to tackle the problem from the root rather than the top. If the kids are well taken off at the early stage, that is if they are sent to school and given all the basic needs of life Agbani thinks that young girls and women will not have any course to go into prostitution. So rather than trying to stop it from the top it is better to start from the root of it, if that is checked then there will be no need for the accumulated problem, Agbani tells one with all seriousness. This project she says is in line with the first lady Chief Mrs. Stella Obasanjo's Child Care Trust found.

One has to make extra effort to be able to pick what the beauty queen was saying as she is very soft spoken. Apart from a tiny neck-chain and pin earring the Agbani is without any other form of jewellery, she says that's about all the jewellery she wears. Her printed top and long skirt sat well on her; Nichemtex are the official fabric makers of the MBGN 2001. Most off Agbani's clothes are specially made, the pageant manager says the beauty queen has an unusual shape and height so most of the ready-made clothes are always too short. So they had to go into contract with Frank Osodi who makes all her clothes, he made even the ones she wore at the Miss Universe. When she is on an official engagement he also does her makeover but normal Agbani is not a make-up person so apart from a lipstick, eye and lip liner and a little eye shadow Agbani does not wear any other make-up.

The 6th child in a family of 10 said it was fun growing up and as a growing child she had all she needed. Her family she says is happy with the success and says they encouraged her to contest for the most beautiful girl crown. Theirs she says is one big happy family and she misses them a great deal in fact, the beauty queen say she is home sick. Agbani does not see anything wrong in a young girl contesting for beauty pageant as long as it is what she wants she should be allowed to do she says.

Not with standing the all exposures, the soon to be 18 old beauty queen tells the reporter that nothing has changed about her. "I am still the same old Agbani though people might view me as a different person I say am still my old self.

Estes vídeos do Miss Mundo passaram a ser fundamentais para se tentar entender alguns resultados que as fotos talvez não expliquem. De qualquer forma, o Miss Mundo honrou a sua tradição de abrir sua caixa com supresas ótimas e outras nem tanto. Pelas fotos e vídeo do Miss U, acho que a escolha de Agbani Darego foi ótima. Mais uma vez a maioria das listas não correspondeu nem de longe aos resultados finais, desde as bolsas de apostas à escolhas dos webmasters. A cada concurso, com pequenas exceções, fica evidente a distância entre a avaliação dos admiradores dos concursos e os resultados oficiais.
