Author: Lord Schism
Subject: "Unicron's head? Are you sure you have both oars in the water, Onitron?!"
In reply to: Kit 's message, "At a Glance" on 22:08:36 02/06/02 Wed

Schism had drifted away from Betacron when Hegemon had stood, and, flinging his arms wide in exasperated emphasis, had knocked Maritime to the ground. Such abuse was not shocking to the beleagured assistant. The expresson Maritime now wore was due solely to Schism addressing the Maximal as 'Onitron,' and not 'Catfish' or any other nautical 'slip.' A quick glance in Eulogy's direction revealed her concern to be equally great, though for now she said nothing as the stirred Schism spoke.

"Listen to THAT! LISTEN! Our little sailor-bots up there got somethin' on their radar, heading for our nets! There's your recon! There's credible support for Blowfish's findings! Whatever tinkertoy teleporters our fellow governing body might have, however Lady Bonfire there even KNOWS, I seriously question their RANGE, let alone the notion of using a portaller for mass evacuation! There's only so much cod-swallop my engine can intake! Do you realize how much power it takes to generate individual portals? I could have gotten a LOT more fishing done if I could have shortened some of my trips, believe you me!

But UNICRON?!!!"

"Sir..."

"UNICRON?!! Are you combusting cybertrout directly into your intake valves, Onitron? Are you? I can't believe Bonfire and Dipfish aren't piping in, what with THEIR history there..."

Maritime sighed. Now he had really done it. The afternoon had been spent in the company of professionals, those who played a slow but accurate game of chess in which seeming sacrifices might well mean a checkmate down the line. And while some made inexplicably more sacrifices than others, Maritime at this moment almost wanted to be in the service of a senator whose idea of chess was flipping the board over when things got bad.

"You aren't going to make me recount the Scourge affair, are you? Oh, don't glare at me old woman; I know what the official report says about Starscream's 'ghost.' The fleshling can tell you the motion I'm making with my hands indicates quote-marks around that last word by the way. More cod-swallop, but that's not what we're here to debate. Unicron is a verrrry dangerous place folks, and has tried to get himself back online on more than one occasion. Do we really want to risk him coercing one of the Councillers into, oh I don't know, stealing him some new eyes and attaching him to our homeworld so he can have a new body with which to devour other worlds???

BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT SLAGGING HAPPENED THE LAST TIME SOMEONE WENT UP THERE!! EVERY REGIME HAS UNANIMOUSLY AGREED TO THE QUARANTINE, AND NO ONE HAS BEEN FOOLISH ENOUGH TO VIOLATE IT!! SAVE FOR HYDRUS-IV, VERY FEW EDICTS ARE PASSED FROM ONE VOLATILE GOVERNING BODY TO ANOTHER! ARE WE TO BREAK IT!"

Maritime coughed loudly, and for once it seemed to get through. For a moment, the boat-drone paused. In an eternal second he watched a bead of mech-fluid trickle off his forehead and fall upon the table. He looked down where the bead had ironically obscured Unicron's head on the map. He collected himself and flashed his moron's grin once more.

"Yes...so you see, we have enough problems going right now to have to worry about the planet-eater, eh? Aren't the four icebergs enough to sink us without adding a continent?"

Schism floated over to his chair and sat once more, awaiting the fallout from his almost Betacronian outburst. Maritime was relieved more had not been said, and the existing restriction on the Head was valid. He only hoped that the lumbering bull-in-a-china-shop mode of filibustering used didn't counter the inherent logic of his senator's point...
