The Emerald Caverns
Descending down the twisting rock hall, you wonder just why you came here..and just where is it you are going. Abruptly the hall opens into a large cavern, encrusted with emeralds, of medievil decoration. Aged swords and axes hung 'pon the walls as did many elaborate tapestries. Statuetts of dragons and wizards stood on shelves filled with scrolls and tattered books. You see many of those book are metaphorical novels and collections of poetry. Your onlooking is diverted to an emerald dragoness whom lay-on a small ledged-over a sparkling sapphire pool. In trance she recites a poem once more...
From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were-I have not seen
As others saw-I could not bring
My passions from a common spring-
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow-I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone-
And all I loved-I loved alone.
Then-in my childhood-in the dawn
Of a most stormy life-was drawn
From ev'ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still-
From the torrent, or the fountain-
From the red cliff of the mountain-
From the sun that round me rolled
In it's autumn tint of gold-
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by-
From the thunder, and the storm-
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view...
Suddenly, her deathly ruby eyes fling open and glare at your own. Narrowing as they study you, nefarious smirk crosses her face as she speaks somewhat amusidly-as if she has something in mind for you, and it doesn't bring you any comfort.
"Well, brave one, what brings you to my privite home? I do hope you enjoyed one of my favorite poems, by my favorite poet-Edger Allan Poe. Ever read his works? Anyhow, I do hope your journey to my home is worth my time, I do hate having my time wasted by useless visits. And pray you were invited here by me. If not, well, I'm feeling generous so I'll give you a 5 second head start, do speak now or I recommend not wasting that 5 seconds...
