Battered and bruised
I continue to wage war
With an enemy of unknown origin
To regain that which was lost
At some point, I’ve lost command
No longer in charge
I try to regain what power I had
And find it difficult at best
It slips through my fingers
As though it doesn’t know me
Regarding me as a passerby
As a common soldier and not a general
Battered and bruised
I challenge the misconceptions
Laid before me, daunting
Of who I am and what I embody
Passionately...
I hold my ground
And await reinforcements
Surrounded by the enemy
Realizing it is me who must make the stand
Alone and without aide
To take back that which is mine
I force the hand of the enemy
My rallying cry of, “who do you think you are”
Wins the first hit...
The enemy is taken aback
And wonders at my audacity
Battered and bruised
I realize I’ve scored a point
And straighten my spine a bit
I aim once more for the target
The enemy shouts back,
“You are nobody, you have no power”
But it is too late
I have found it
The power was within me all along
There for the taking
Though I never truly bothered before this
I hold it in my hands, it is my weapon
It belongs to me and no one else
No one can take it from me
What they take is false
What I hold is true
