Dear Martin County High School XC:

You guys are lucky. You have some of your most exciting days ahead of you this Cross Country season. I ran XC and Track at Kissimme Osceola High with Coach Lehning as my coach in 1982 and 1983. When Coach Lehning started, at the beginning of my Junior year, I was 17:25 3 miler. By the time I finished my Senior year, I had run 15:34 at the old Titusville Airport course, and finished 5th at state. That was only the beginning. Coach Lehning instilled in me the desire to work hard and never be satisfied. I went on to run in college at FSU, then moved to Colorado for a year to train for the marathon. I've run 2:24 for the marathon, 30:30 for 10K, 14:40 for 5K and 14:08 for 3 miles, and I don't really have much talent. I still run competitively. My point is that you all have a great coach who will lead you to great success if you trust him, and do everything that he asks. Good luck with the Cross Country season!
