Salmon River Steelhead High Water Report
Well the Salmon River is once again a bigger River where real fishermen using old standbys like hot shots, egg sacks in hot pink mesh from tony's salmon country sports (best eggs in pulaski), jointed rapalas and plain old worms have been reaping a reasonable harvest of nice spring run steelhead. Both saturday and sunday we caught back to back Male Skamania steelhead with brilliant red racing stripes and orange bulleyes adorning their gill covers. Both fish were weighed in at 12.50lbs each. One came from South sandy creek and the other from the "Big Fish Hole" as named by the late Capt. Keith Smith or Buckwheat as he was referred to by many of his fellow guides. That's the lower Trestle hole to you un-initiated types. The south sandy head was released to fight another day. the majority of the fish we've captured have been spawned out but saturday on south sandy we battled a monster of tremendous proportions. The White bellied, chrome sided, and blue-green backed leviathan dealt us a good ten minute beating before tearing the plug loose from his mouth in the fabled J.W. Hole. Look for South Sandy to give up a legitimate Twenty (20) pound class metalhead in the next 10 days. NOT KIDDING!!!!Anyhow, this good water has been giving the fly liners, pokers, whippers, jay-pluggers, and other Fraud-fishermen a real run for their money keeping the steelhead safe for the real fishermen. I hope the high water lasts long enough for another week of high water angling. Still on one hit on the Oregon Cheese! bummer.....That's It. Walleyed
