Backstreet Boys have canceled a concert in San Diego to join "The Concert for New York City" on October 20.

The pop luminaries are the latest act to be added to a lineup featuring Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, the Who, Bon Jovi, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Macy Gray, Goo Goo Dolls, Melissa Etheridge, Marc Anthony, Five for Fighting and India.Arie.

Paul Shaffer and his "Late Show" band have been announced as the house band for the benefit, which will raise funds for the families of the firefighters, police officers and others who lost their lives in the September 11 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers.

The Madison Square Garden concert will air commercial-free on VH1, VH1 U.K. and VH1 European, reaching 88 countries. It will also be simulcast on radio stations nationwide.

The television broadcast will display a phone number and Web site address for donations, which will go to a special fund established by the Robin Hood Foundation, which fights poverty in New York.

Several actors have also been added to the event, including Michael J. Fox, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Jimmy Fallon, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe. They will join a previously announced roster of Jim Carrey, Meg Ryan, Susan Sarandon, David Spade, Julia Stiles, Denis Leary and John Cusack (see "Paul McCartney Joining Bon Jovi, Macy Gray For New York Benefit").

More than 5,000 members of New York's fire department, police department and rescue crews and their families will be in attendance. Tickets sold out on Monday, although a limited number of premium tickets remain available through the Robin Hood Foundation's Web site.

Backstreet Boys will perform at the United We Stand benefit the following night in Washington, D.C., with 'NSYNC, Ricky Martin and others (see "'NSYNC, Backstreet Boys Unite For Benefit Concert").
