John's stroke was caused by "atrial fibrillation" which threw the blood clot to the brain. Doctors said it was just a small clot and hit the left brain. It has not impaired any of his motor skills (walking, writing) and it has not slurred his speech. But it has impaired his cognitive abilities. The doctors and nurses have assured me that with speech and occupational therapy, he can return to almost normal function.

The doctor started him on blood thinner medication late Friday afternoon. As of Sunday morning, the lab reports showed his blood to be thin enough that he was medically ready for discharge.

They are going to discharge him to a skilled nursing facility to begin the speech and occupational therapy. We are anticipating that he will be ready for discharge from the SNF to home with home health visitation within a week.

Big thanks to all of you who prayed for us during this trial. I could feel the effects of all the intercessory prayers. I don't recall ever having felt such nearness to God's loving arms in my lifetime. I kept feeling the spiritual assurance that I was not alone. Last night I was even granted the wonderful privilege of falling asleep curled up like a child in God's loving arms.

God bless all of you for your prayer support!

Sister Janna
