Subject: Successful Missions Trip

My daughter and I just returned from a week in Cusuna, Honduras, on a mission trip with our church. We got off to a very bumpy start; we went to the wrong airport. For a moment we thought the whole trip was going to come to an abrupt end, but God worked it out, and we were able to make a later flight. We were 8 hours late but got there the same day. The next day we had to make the whole drive to Cusuna in one day. It’s not safe to drive in Honduras at night but we had no choice. The last two hours to the village were in the dark on a dirt road in the pouring rain. But God watched over us and we made it safely. The next day we were back on track, took a tour of the village, went swimming in the Caribbean, and went to evening service. One of our Spanish speaking brethren preached that night, and the pastor of the church translated into the Garifuna language. The Garifuna are black Africans who were stranded in the Caribbean during the slave trade. Many of them live in villages in Honduras, Belize, and Nicaragua. The next day we began having two children’s bible classes every day, then one of our groups would preach in the evening church service. I preached a sermon on the grace of God, and three responded to the call for repentance. We had about three or for respond every night. We also gave away some of the extra clothes we brought with us, and I had about 40 ball caps that I gave away. The last day a lady in the village asked some of us to come and pray for her. She had dropped some iron bars on her leg and it was badly swollen, and looked as if it were broken, we prayed for here, and the next day took her to the doctor, but her leg had already gone down quit a bit and she was able to walk on it. It was a great pleasure to see the way my eleven year old daughter handled herself through the whole trip. She never complained, dived right into everything, helped everybody out, played with the Garifuna kids, and went with us to pray for the injured woman. She wants to go back again next year. All I can say is praise the Lord for His goodness and for getting us there and back safely, and for working in the lives of several of the Garifuna people. I pray that those who responded to the call for salvation were changed, and that God will work in and through them. Thanks for your prayers.

In His service,

Rev. Hobert Arp Jr.
