Subject: The broken hearted and a life in crisis

I want to encourage those of you who this post will speak to directly or perhaps you know of someone who is going through some hard times more than usual. My beleif is that if this touches you in any way that you may be the one who needs this information or you may be in direct contact with someone who does.
While praying I sense that there is an unusual discouragement that is affecting many individuals. These individuals are both in ministry and in the market place. They are faced with the unknown; for example burn out in thier marriages and jobs. The choices that they are faced with day by day are do I leave my spouse?, do I quit my job?, do I run?, do I hide?, do I quit this ministry?, or what do I do? Have you ever had something happen to you and you felt an emotion that you couldn't even describe the feeling or put a name to it? Usually it happens when something bad happens that is way out of the norm such as a faithful spouse who decides one day he or she is just going to leave without any explanation and without any further contact or a job you've been at for 10 years and you are not satisfied with it anymore but it is the only thing you know how to do and you feel trapped. You know you need the job but there is no offer for promotion and the annual reviews gain maybe a 5 to 10% pay increase.
During these times there are usually feelings of uncertainty. The mind says "make yourself happy". This may come in many ways like thinking of buying some big ticket item that you can't afford or having an extramarital affair or something else just as foolish.
If you or anyone you know is going through a season that is like this or similar to it I want to encourage you with the Word of God. In Hebrews 12:12-14 it reads - 12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. 13 "Make level paths for your feet," so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. 14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. NIV
What this is saying is that during those times pick yourself up, dust yourself off, make your path straight in the persuit of peace with all men and live a holy life so that the Lord will come and minister healing to you.
Do the right thing no matter what your flesh is telling you do to do be happy. It is better to be at peace and have the joy of the Lord which is your strength than to give yourself a little happiness which will die off after a season. You have the power to choose. Now choose what will bring life to you and don't choose what won't. My prayer for those who this touches is that you understand the power to choose even though you don't know all the facts on each side that you are choosing from. A broken hearted life in crisis can be blinded by the pursuit of happiness and I hope that this word will remove the blinds. Stay in the race brothers and sisters, stay on coarse. The Lord love you and give you strength. Amen

In His service,
Rev. David Hoffman
