Since it is physically impossible to lose 17 "real" pounds in one week**, the brouhaha we are being subjected to on PWC2 simply reveals that the "challenge" was inadequately defined at the outset.

All of this reminds me, Ben: Where can I find an update on the status of your new year's resolutions? I vaguely recall your saying you were going to post it somewhere. Or something.

** One must burn approximately 3,600 calories in order to lose a "real" pound (i.e., a pound of (echh) body fat), and the normal human burns between 1500 and 2500 calories per day. On the other hand, one can easily lose 5 - 10 pounds of "water weight" in a day (or even a few hours) if one engages in sufficiently strenuous exercise.
