"It is know as a private school town where people live and send their children to private school. Other towns have people moving there for the school. East Rockaway does not."
This is true. I myself have lived in East Rockaway all my life and went to private school from Kindergarten all the way through high school. I will agree that this is one of East Rockaway's faults, but it is not a reason for our sovereignty to be usurped by the Town of Hempstead.

"The village government got itself in trouble when they allowed Atlantic Ave to be butchered."
I have no idea what this is in reference to. I don't remember Atlantic Ave. being butchered, nor do I remember the village allowing it.

"Now only one person at a time runs for Mayor. Isn't that like the countries where only one man runs for dictator?"
Considering that certain East Rockaway village officials are infamous for non-action, I think the dictator accusation is a weak one. I personally detest the idea that the Unity Party is the only political entity in all of East Rockaway. (Though, I have yet to have my house raided by Formont's secret police). I have often thought about beginning opposition to the status quo, and perhaps 2005 is when I will do that.

"Seeing that the new generation has little interest in politics they will have a different outlook at the world."
Have you seen the amount of people that have voted in the last few elections? Politics in the United States is stronger than ever, especially among young people.

I have read your message up and down and I cannot find a reason why East Rockaway should just become a part of the Town of Hempstead (Which it is already a part of). Do you have a reason(s)?

Just look at the signs and see where the local government is heading. Renovating a town or area does not mean the government will stay the same hopefully it will change
The people who see only one person running will either go to the Town of Hempstead or get someone to run against.
What ever happens something will change. To have a local Government with only one person running is not healthy. However who is to say who is healthy.
I wonder if it was ever healthy.

"Just look at the signs and see where the local government is heading. Renovating a town or area does not mean the government will stay the same hopefully it will change"

Since when does renovating an area mean the government will change? Can you please provide an example of a renovation ushering in a change of government? From what I see, they have nothing to do with one another. What does renovating the docks have to do with the village dissolving into the Town of Hempstead?

"The people who see only one person running will either go to the Town of Hempstead or get someone to run against."

Again, the Town of Hempstead has nothing to do with this. Lynbrook's leadership is going on their third straight term and the Town of Hempstead has not gotten involved. You're right, there is a lack of opposition. BUT WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD TAKING OVER THE VILLAGE? Incumbency is no reason for the town to take over East Rockaway. On top of that, the town taking over East Rockaway is a bad idea. East Rockaway is closer to New York City than it is to the Town of Hempstead. I, along with the overwhelming majority of the Village, like having a local government. Oceanside is in shambles because there is no local government to stand up for the citizens' rights.

Finally, for the umpteenth time, East Rockaway is already a part of the Town of Hempstead. Under the current system, we are a part of the Town of Hempstead and we have local representation. What you want to do is just strip us of local representation because you don't like the duly-elected government. If you really don't like them, why don't you run?

The most important question here is this: WHAT WILL EAST ROCKAWAY GAIN BY GIVING UP ITS LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND BEING CONTROLLED BY THE TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD? (Don't forget that East Rockaway is already a part of the Town of Hempstead). Please do not dodge this question again, thank you.

Why is it about gain? I see it as disinterest. Everyone I talk to does not care and they say they want the village to fade. They say it is a waste of time and money. Go out and talk to people.

All the people who made the Wild Duck Inn horrible will go to some other bar in East Rockaway or will they bully the new owner like they do to all the new people?

Last night I went to dinner with a friend who said the people in this area are horrible and never knew it was that bad.

Some of my family is in Georgia and there are more red necks here in East Rockaway. It is shameful for an area that wants to make money have all these red necks around, No one wants to come and walk and eat dinner with red necks lurking around.

"Why is it about gain?"

Because it is a drastic change in the infrastructure of their government. Something must be gained if they are going to go to the trouble of rearranging the government.

"Everyone I talk to does not care and they say they want the village to fade. They say it is a waste of time and money. Go out and talk to people."

Assuming that the people you talk to are even the least informed, approximately how much time and money would we save? Even if I thought that the current TOH bureaucracy would be interested in the best interest of East Rockaway, (Which I do not), it would be a less efficient service than we currently get because their resources would be even more stretched than they already are.

"All the people who made the Wild Duck Inn horrible will go to some other bar in East Rockaway or will they bully the new owner like they do to all the new people?"

As far as this new owner of the Wild Duck Inn goes, I have seen no sign that there has been a change in ownership. Don't get me wrong, I want someone to rescue that place, but where are these new owners? Do they have a date planned for the grand opening? I really am looking forward to it and I want to go there.

In regards to the "bullies", I would like to see the Village have its own police force. Unlike Nassau cops which can take up to 10 minutes, the Village police would be able to arrive anywhere in East Rockaway in one minute or less. As they become familiar with the area, they would know who the "bullies" are and deal with them accrodingly. Unlike the Nassau police, they would not just be putting on a show.

"Last night I went to dinner with a friend who said the people in this area are horrible and never knew it was that bad."

Where does your friend live that is so much better?

Since I can remember the village has said it wanted it's own police.

I heard that the fire was called in by a policeman on Main St a few weeks ago and he had to keep calling becaue no one came to the fire.

I hope the police will be out tonight. I guess the Duck will be full. In fact it is filling up right now.

I imagine that a grandopening would come after all the repairs are made. They said June 30 it changes hands. All things that are good and lasting take time. They might have changed their minds after seeing all creeps around here. I have seen that happen many times.
And we all know the lawyer joke saying why are lawyers paid so much? They are paid by the hour.

On the night of that fire, I remember not being able to sleep and suddenly hearing the ERFD horn sound. Then I saw the fire chief's car drive by with his sirens on. This was at about 3:15 AM, when the fire is believed to have started.

The major hole in that story is that in order to believe it, you would have to believe that a Nassau County cop actually called something in.

The more people I talk to about the Village all say it is a waste of time and money and they want it to go. The street sweeper leaves grass growing on the curbs. People call the Village and no one cares about what they have to say so they call the Town of Hemptead instead.
People have many things to say about how poorly things are run.
