What has happened to the Ship's Inn? 15 years ago, it was one of the best restaurants on Long Island, now it is vacant property. Does anyone know of any plans for a new business there?

call it 30 years ago, I knew the O'brien kids , (I was friends with Kieth, they were all K's Kerry, Kyle, and was it Kathy) their Dad owned the Ships Inn, then He passed, and their step-mom owned it, lost touch with them about that time.

My Dad Erich Kuhnel owned the Ships Inn during the late 40's and early 50's. In September 1951 my Dad and Mother told me they had a surprise for me, they were going to give me the Ships Inn as taking care of two taverns (they also owned the Myrtle and Gates tavern in Ridgewook New York) was just too much for them. Then I sprang my surprise on them telling them that I had just enlisted in the Air force and was leaving for basic training the next Monday. Writing about the Inn brings back many good memories. I had a boat which I parked behind the Inn. It was a 16" hand made boat with a 5" beam and a 7 1/2 HP Scott at Water motor but because it was so heavy it was slow but for a 16 year old guy was lots of fun. Oh well those days have gone but not the memories. Erich Kuhnel class of 51.
