WORLD CUP FANS URGED TO AVOID FOUL PLAY WITH ATOL PROTECTION

"If you're one of the fortunate few with a World Cup ticket, or just heading to Asia to watch the games live on TV, make sure you're ATOL protected or you might not get there," warns David Moesli, Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority's Consumer Protection Group.

"You're taking a risk with your flight or package deal if it is not booked with an ATOL holder. Although most trips abroad to matches are organised by ATOL holders, there have been some unlicensed operations which have gone out of business and supporters have lost their money and missed out on the match they've saved for."

Mark Perryman, a fan member of England's official supporters club, englandfans, said: "Fans have enough trouble willing their team to victory. A travel company that goes bust or rips us off when we're on our way to the other side of the world is just one hassle too many. My advice to fellow fans is to look for the ATOL logo."

To make sure you don't end up watching the World Cup from your local, the advice from the CAA is to ensure that any flight or package that you buy is sold by an ATOL holder. Look for the logo and licence number - phone ATOL on 020 7453 6431 or visit www.atol.org.uk
