Looking for my Grandmother's father

My grandmother was born in 1928 or 1929 in Rosalia Foundling Hospital. She was adopted by a woman directly afterwards. Later, her birth mother, Catherine Litzinger, came back into the picture. My Grandmother has never known wh0 her father is. She never even had a copy of her birth certificate until recently. The name of the father given on the certificate was Allan Whitaker. We have no idea who this man is, or how they met. There was talk in the family about an encounter with Catherine and a man on a cruise ship. Catherine was born around 1905, so we are assuming the gentleman was around the same age.
This is something that is very important to my Grandmother, Rosemarie. If anyone has any information, please contact me.
