- Meeting Pint Before The Game? -- Phil, 20:30:29 10/02/01 Tue
A translation to come tomorrow (once I've found my dictionary!) but this is a new idea by ASM to have a meal before and after the game so that the fans can get together and discuss the game!

Good start to the competition and Tom and Phil almost got the score correct.
The score flattered Northampton and we should have won by a bigger margin. Man of the match was the obvious choice in Rob and wasn't Ben(who)awful.
Anyway onward to the next game.
Qualification rules from the group.
Pool winners are decided on the following criteria:
a) Team with the most points
b) Most points in the two matches played between two clubs
c) Best points difference in matches played between two clubs
d) Number of tries scored in matches between two clubs
e) Number of tries scored in all pool matches
f) Points difference in all pool matches
g) Fewest players sent off in all pool matches
h) Toss of a coin
Pool runners-up are calculated under the same criteria

Could Craig be Cardiff's answer to Lomu ? Makes a better full back than Rhys. What was he doing playing so deep. He's worth the season ticket money on his own.
Let's hope he has a stormer against Northampton. He can make a real difference if used properly.

- Poor officials, and other observations -- Gareth Castle, 18:30:59 09/12/01 Wed
Yet another set of poor officials last night, once again spoilt the game by not using the yellow card for deliberately slowing the game down and blatant foul play.
They failed to spot many off the ball incidents, mainly deliberate taking out of men off the ball. One of the linesmen managed to pass a thinly veiled two fingers to the family stand (ok he was getting a lot of grief but nothing over the top)
It's about time they realised that we pay a lot of money to watch week in and week out and make sure we get some entertainment. We don't come to watch them, which I'm sure some of them think we do. Early enforcement of the sin bin would set the stall out and make for some real rugby.
The preacher's penalty tally managed to go out of the window in the first fifteen minutes, a lot more work needed there.
Rhys Williams is still a liability, one excellent run does not a full back make, time to switch or lose him. Don't play him in the centre though because he can not get the ball back. Wing or Outside Half (utility player ?)
Hudson Man of the Match by a mile, definately goingto be in the Dan the Man hero mold, oh! to have them both in the team.
Got a feeling it's going to be a long frustrating season.

- Team for Munster announced -- Tom, 10:59:06 09/13/01 Thu
The Munster Branch of the IRFU has announced this morning that Saturday's match will kick-off at 1.30 pm.
Team : Rhys Williams; Craig Hudson, Matt Allen, Pieter Muller, Anthony Sullivan; Nick Robinson, Robert Howley; Peter Rogers, Andrew Lewis, David Young (capt), Craig
Quinnell, John Tait, Dan McShane, Semo Sititi, Rob Appleyard
Replacements : Kenneth Fourie, Greg Woods, Adam Jones, Robin Sowden-Taylor, Paul Jones, Jamie Robinson, Chris Miller
The match referee is Rob "Homer" Dickson of Scotland.
Looks like the absence of an outside centre means more crash bang wallop rugby! And with Rita back, this front five could well be the same as the selection for the Northampton game.
Come on the Blue Blacks!

- Can Cardiff qualify for the quarter finals? -- Tom, 15:30:27 09/12/01 Wed
With the table as it stands at the moment can Cardiff qualify for the quarter finals? Because of the failure to score more tries last night, if they lose in Munster, Connacht beat Caerphilly and Newport beat Neath then we'll be on a level points with Newport for the third place position. If Newport score more tries against Neath than we do against Munster, we're out!

Taken from the official one.
Cardiff's final Celtic League pool B game against Munster in Limerick this weekend has been switched from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon.
This has ben caused by events outside the club's control. With the Irish Government confirming a national day of mourning for the victims of the terrorist attacks in the USA, the IRFU announced that no rugby matches could be played before Saturday. Connacht's game with Caerphilly is also affected.
The provisional kick-off time for Saturday has been set at 1.45 pm, but the club will confirm this as early as possible on Thursday morning.

Ryan Out for Two Months
Medical examinations have confirmed that scrum-half Ryan Powell, injured in the 31st minute of last night's game with Edinburgh Rugby, has suffered a fractured fibula in the left leg.
Chief executive Robert Norster said,
"This is a very sad injury for Ryan but, hopefully, he will be fit again in six to eight weeks. Obviously we have an immediate problem of scrum-half cover for Rob Howley. We have to register our squad for the Heineken Cup on Friday so we are working to a tight time schedule."
