The Black Death: Because it ended in Italy but was still thriving in the other countries, that made Italy specifically the country where the Renaissance could occur.

1504: Completion of David.

The Avignon Papacy: (1309- early 5th cent): Also known as the Babylonian Captivity, where the pope moved to Avignon France, from Rome. Lead to the Papal Schism, which causes a lot of political controversy.

Ottomans Capture Constantinople in 1543: Allowed Venice to create a monopoly for itself by striking a deal with the Turks

Columbus sails to New World in 1492: Begins a period of exploration, and leads to colonization of the New World.

Peace of Lodi in 1454: Florence, Milan, and Venice form an alliance against the French and the Turks. Formation of the Italian League.

1512: Medici overthrow the newly-established republic.

Peace of Cambrai in 1529: France ends its claim on Naples and Milan.

1530: Many of the Renaissance Artists have died, and many humanists moved to the alps. Signifies how the Renaissance moved up north.

Da Vinci: True representation of what we know today as a �Renaissance Man�. Was well-versed in an incredible variety of subjects.

Girolamo Savonarola: With the establishment of the republic and the Medici gone, Savonarola was the ruler of the republic until it was overthrown again. Predicted the French invasion.
