Subject: Even higher on cults...my complete post.
In reply to: Don 's message, "Even higher on cults...." on 03:39:11 06/16/02 Sun

Thank you for your response and I did just as you said but I’m afraid that I stand by last
post. If you would be so kind as to point out my errors I would be grateful. Until then
what you are asking of me is to take the words of people that appears to have no
experience in these matter if all they present is a list of church doctrine. Rather than
argue from authority, as I could produce many top names with many degrees, I would
prefer we discuss the issues.

Can you show me how this doctrine prevents a person form becoming a cult member?

I am not against giving reference for material and I have made a note of them , Thank
you.

Are you aware of the damage that cults do to people, the mental scars, and the
disfigurement of an innocent life that cults do; not only on the cult member but also on
the all those that love dearly that same person?

I understand that this is a touchy subject for you but I would like to encourage you to
explore this with me.

Tell me what you think about this idea.....

Demand for Purity. The world is viewed as black and white and the members are
constantly exhorted to conform to the ideology of the group and strive for perfection.
The induction of guilt and/or shame is a powerful control device used here.

Just because you are a member of a church does not make you a cult member. It goes far
beyond that. As I first spoke... to know cults is to know people. I am not against believing
in a loving God, or fellowship in the Lord, or worshiping your Creator as you see fit,
bible study as groups, or religious organizations that are in involved in humanities. I
personally encourage bible study.

You posted

“Listed below are several traits or marks common to most of the cults”....

So I am looking for “traits and marks” where are they? In context this sentence refers to
people-- not to what they believe. ( special note.... “marks”... are cult members branded
this word is out of context, or is it.?)

1. Cults often, but not always deny the Biblical doctrine of the Triune Godhead. Some
claim to uphold the Trinity, but modify it to suit their peculiar teachings. For example,
some groups who claim to uphold the Trinity doctrine, such as The Local Church of
Witness Lee actually teach the doctrine of Modalism. Others claim to uphold the doctrine
of the Trinity, but relegate Christ to the position of a created being, such as the
***Seventh Day Adventists who say that Jesus is actually the archangel Michael.

Sir, these are not traits they are “beliefs”, what you gave is doctrine. I am looking for the
“traits” of the people involved not what they believe. Also how are these people
controlled mentally? Cult members can believe anything. Have you had any experience
with cults?

So cults may or may not believe in the Trinity. Sir, this does not tell me one thing what
so ever. Not one piece of usable information concerning cults.

Your document falls very short in this matter of explanation. Also would you care to
explain why it was necessary to even mention the “Seventh Day Adventists”. They have a
ministry and missionaries all over this world and do much good. No, I am not a 7th day
Adventist.

What you gave as traits concerning the “Seventh Day Adventists” is actually a label of
degradation. Is it wise to give labels that condemn perhaps millions of innocent
people?--- I do not think so.
