I am writing on behalf of a charitable organisation called the Tumble Family Centre. (Charity no. 1092188)
We are a recently set up organisation made up of local parents in Tumble, near Crosshands in Carmarthenshire, Wales, to set up a family Centre to provide a free service for pre school children and their parents/carers.
We live in a very deprived area. The local primary school has 33% of its children on free school meals and 58% have learning disabilities. The health visitor states that 7.9% of teenagers in the village are parents and 6.3% of children are on the social services register.
Our aim is to improve and develop their social, physical, lingual, intellectual and creative skills in a warm, friendly, bi-lingual environment through positive play and introducing them to specialist help when necessary.
We have many plans, including courses for the adults on things such as parenting skills, healthy eating, safety, first aid. Other ideas include talks by the health visitor, a toy library, clothes swapping etc.
We will be preparing children for school. We hope that they will be more able to socialise, share and have greater confidence in themselves and in hearing and using the Welsh language, to make integration easier and we will identify problems so that the school can have in place the necessary facilities to help the children as soon as they start.
The purpose of this email is to ask for your help in any way you feel able. A personal appearance to open either our fund raising event on the 12th of April 2003 or to formally open the Family Centre late this year or early next year would be ideal but we do appreciate how busy you are. Any donations you could make either financial or maybe a prize for our grand raffle would be wonderful and very much appreciated, not just by us but by all the families that would benefit from having the Family Centre here.
As a celebrity your donation would be doubly thrilling to us all.
