will try to answer your questions to the best of my recollections. when i was in graves registration all remains of us servicemen and civilians were processed by the mortuaries at saigon and da nang. designation as a btb was dependant on the amount of positive identification that was established at the forward collection points. majority of casualties were ijndentified by various methods befre finaldisposistion. in case of air crash and fire bodies were usually severely charred but id tags were intact. id tags were removed from remains and forwarded with paperwork..
