I went to Nam in 66 with this outfit. The whole Bn. left Fort
Hood in May of 66.We took a train from the base to Oakland
Army depot. We got off the choo choo and got on a boat called
The USNS Gordon and set sail for the cesspool of society.I
worked in the motor pool for several months when me and
about seven others transfered to II Field Force Headquarters
outfit as crew chiefs on hueys. As best as I can remember, when with the 53rd we only wore the 3rd corp patch on our sleves. We wore signal brass on our collar though.
