I was assigned to Charlie Company from May of 70 thru April of 71. I was so tired of the mickey mouse tasks of readiness at the motor pool that I volunteered for assignments other than that.
I was a perimeter guard for a month, working in one of the tall towers. I was a trash truck guard, going to the main gate to meet a vietnamese truck with about 6 people who I escorted back to the battalion area to pick up the garbage and make sure they didn't steal or pick up contraband. I also spent about 6 weeks assigned to drive a water truck, which you may remember just north of the USO Beach was a water tank and a line of trucks that waited to be filled. That was a good job, as the hardest part was sitting in the sun and working on our tans.
Finally, I was assigned to LZ Hill 411 out of Duc Pho, to operate a teletype radio for communications and support of the grunts in the field. Not fun, saw some tough stuff come in out of the field there. If anyone one knows anyone that was on the Hill from Nov 70 thru March of 71, put them in touch with this web site.
