I joined A 3/6 while it was at Ft Sill, we were a M-108 (SP)Bn. We moved to Oakland CA. by rail and shipped out on the US Walker, landed at Cam Rohn Bay and airlifted to Pleiku our equipment arrived about 3 weeks later. A Btry was moved to the Tea Plantation south of Pleiku and we provided general support to the 25th Inf Div(mostly 1st Bn 35th Inf and C Troop 3/4 Cav) We also provided support to the 1st Cav , Fourth Infantry Div and Special Forces Camps in this area I belive one of them was Plei Jerang (check spelling) and possibly DAK TO. I was a recon sgt when we arrived in country and later was a gun chief. The Btry moved quite often. I belive we arrived in country in May of 66. I was transfered to 1st Bn 4oth Arty in Oct 66 as part of infusion program (confusion) The Btry was well officered and fired many day and night missions many of them for units in contact. The Bn was assigned to the 52nd Arty Gp at Artillery Hill at Pleiku. The Bn was awarded the Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry and A Btry was awarded the Valorus Unit Award (DAK TO). I will be glad to answer any questions that I can and am proud that the battalion lives on in todays Army. Thank you for serving. Jim Friedline SFC USA Rtd.
