I was at Cat Lai from November '70 to December '71. I originally started as a clerk. After the 159th stood down, I stayed at Cat Lai with the 511th which was supposed to train the ARVN replacements. Gary Kindred's stories really hit home and brought back lots of memories. I remember a rumor that the basement of the HQ building was haunted. Apparently, there were either French or Japanese who were tortured and killed. According to one story, their bodies were still there.
