The Germans were responsible for the death of more than 11 million civilians around the time of WW-2, these were not war casualties, these were murders. The Japanese were responsible for the death of an estimated 20 million civilians around the time of WW-2. Again, these were not war casualties, these were murders. Both these numbers grow considerably when war casualties are added.

The U.S. was a noncombatant when most of these deaths took place. The U.S. entered the war late in the game. Between Japan and Germany, the Allies killed approximately 500,000 civilians -- these WERE war casualties (still bad, but these civilians at least had some control over their destiny prior to their deaths. The voluntary support and resources they provided their governments made the above atrocities possible).

America’s crime at the time of WW-2 was that it did not act sooner. It’s impossible to say how many wrongful deaths might have been prevented if they had, but it’s safe to say quite a few.

Since then, American policy has been more responsive to plight of others -- and yes, the U.S. responds a whole lot quicker when there’s a potential profit involved. The American people get tired of footing the bill all by themselves after a while. WW-2 and helping to rebuild afterward cost the U.S. a staggering amount of resources that will never be repaid except in trade.

As recently as the 1980’s, most of the countries of the world came under the protection of the U.S.S.R., Great Britain and/or the U.S. -- China and France, the other two “Superpowers” pretty much kept to themselves. Today, most of the world, including (to varying degrees); France, Great Britain and most of the ex-Soviet Bloc countries including Russia herself depend on U.S. intervention in the event of all-out war. The American People are still footing the bill but the U.S. Government is far more aggressive about extracting payment via highly profitable trade agreements.

Those who died on 9-11-01 were murdered, they were not war casualties. Also, this was an attack against the American People (with a simultaneous attack against the U.S. Government). Attacking the U.S. Government is decidedly unhealthy, attacking the American People is a very very bad idea. You say the Taliban was fighting for a cause, what cause? You’re the first person I’ve heard mention a cause. Last I heard they still didn’t have the courage to stand by their actions, much less justify those actions.

When some smarmy little bearded fuck announced he was God’s representative on Earth, and those accused of conspiring to commit these murders were under his protection, then decreed the American People would just have to back-off...he got swatted like a fly. These people are so stupid they not only lost the trust and respect of a significant part of the World’s adult population, they announced to the children of the World the Muslim religion places little value on their lives or the lives of their families.

Your grasp of history and your writing put you at 12 years old tops. You and I both know your peers don’t share your views. When you grow up, you’ll discover the Taliban is a poor choice of heros.
