Subject: Are you afraid of the dark?

(The scene fades into Xtreme’s living room on a dark, stormy night. Xtreme and Jake are watching TV and Ambre is reading but because of the storm, the picture on the TV is quite fuzzy. Xtreme is holding the remote and after a minute or two, he turns the TV off. Jake turns angrily to him and says)

Jake: Why’d you do that?

Xtreme: The TV shouldn’t be on right now with that storm outside and besides, I couldn’t see anything anyway.

Jake: I could! Gene Rayburn just started another question and I didn’t get to hear it!

Xtreme: Cry me a river, Jake.

Ambre: Come on you two, stop fighting.

Jake: Sorry.

Xtreme: Yeah, sorry. It’s just that even though I beat in Lost’s face last week with a tire iron, this week I have to face K. Mysterio. When I hear the name K. Mysterio the only thing that comes to mind is “Who?” Does anyone care about this guy? I have no fuckin’ idea who this dude is and he thinks he can challenge me, Mr. Storm’s Chosen One? I mean, I’ve seen some dumb motherfuckers in my time…but he takes the cake. He hasn’t shown his face on TV yet but I bet he’s sitting back in his dwelling thinking he has this match under control, thinking he has me under control. But why? Why does he think he has everything under control when he has MAYBE three GWA matches under his belt, and I am a former Coliseum champion? I am Mr. Storm’s Chosen One so you know I am smarter and more skilled than the average bear. Mr. Storm wouldn’t pick just any backdoor bandit to be his Chosen One…well he did pick Chris Carpenter at first but we’ll just forget about that. I am the real deal and everyone knows it. I know I have been slipping in my performances recently but that will all change once I dominate K. Mysterio. This isn’t going to be a match, this is going to be a chance for me to show off to the fans that I can still hang with the best of them after my humiliating defeat at the hands of Lost Worlds and Anguish. I’m more than capable of handling K. Mysterio, just look at how bad I beat Lost last week. Granted, I had a little help from my trusty tire iron, but I got the job done and that’s all there is to it. It doesn’t matter how I got from point A to point B as long as I got there, right? Right, that’s all I see it as. But I won’t need to cheat to beat Mysterio, just like I didn’t need to cheat to beat any of my other victims in the GWA. All I’m going to do is use something Mysterio, I’m wagering, knows nothing about…something called “skill”. I’ve been wrestling since I was in middle school so what chance to you think you have of beating me? Oh wow, you wrestled in Mexico and Japan…well this doesn’t look like Japan and it doesn’t smell like Mexico to me to I’d say your screwed, pal. Mysterio better not have too high of hopes coming into this match because I’m not going to let this Telemundo reject defeat me. If you didn’t know, Telemundo is the Spanish channel…damn do I have to spell everything out for you people? But all ethnicity jokes aside, Mysterio stands as little a chance of beating me as Jake has of ever scoring with a girl…

Jake: Hey!

Xtreme: Calm down, Jake, it was just a joke…

Jake: I’ve scored before!

Xtreme: Oh yeah, when?

Jake: Well there was that time…umm…when I uh…oh yeah and what about that other time at that…umm…place…well I’m not going to tell you with Ambre sitting here!

Xtreme: Ok fine then…Ambre, will you please step into another room for a moment?

Ambre: Ok…

Jake: Damnit, Xtreme why do you always have to make fun of me?!

Xtreme: Because it’s easy and fun.

Jake: Oh…I see. Touche’.

Xtreme: So anyway, before I was so rudely interrupted, K. Mysterio has no chance of ever getting the 1-2-3 on me or on any other GWA superstar for that matter. I mean the guy looks like a reject from one of those crazy Spanish game shows on Telemundo yet he thinks he can compete with the best in the world of wrestling? It’s all about respect, but I obviously have none for you. Why should I have any respect for a guy who has to hide his face behind a mask when he wrestles? Do you wear the mask because you know you are so incompetent that people would hassle you non stop when you walk down the street? Or is it because you like all the pretty colors on the mask? I may never know the answer to that question but I do know that you better respect me, son, because if you don’t you’ll be in for a world of hurt come Insurrection. How do you expect to win over a superior opponent if you don’t respect them? I am far superior to you in EVERY way, Mysterio, so don’t bother trying to argue with me. You know it, I know it, all the fans know that you have no shot of beating me. The only reason this match was even signed was because Mr. Storm thought I could use a match to boost my ego after my few losses in the weeks past. You’ve been less than stellar since joining the GWA and Mr. Storm feels you need a kick in the ass to get you going…but I plan on giving you more than a little kick for encouragement. The beating you’re going to get at Insurrection is already bad enough, but if you don’t even care enough to show your face on TV, then you’re fate will fall along the same lines of Lost World’s last week. You saw what I did to him so don’t think for a second I’d have any regret about doing the same to you. I love hurting my opponents almost as much as I love winning, so I figure that I mix the two together and so far the results have been satisfactory. But I think you’re destruction will be extra severe to prove to everyone that even though I don’t have gold anymore, I can still kick as much ass as any champion can. Mysterio will be an example to anyone who wants to get in my way…especially Lost Worlds. As long as he insists on believing his own twisted ideas, our business is not finished. Even after our match at Anguish, even after the beating he got last week…our business is not yet over. My time will soon come again in the GWA. I will soon rise again to the spotlight of the GWA but if I first must dispense of this nobody they call K. Mysterio then so be it….

(Suddenly, all the lights in the apartment go out and the entire room is shrouded in darkness except for the light coming from streetlights outside. The storm is now raging stronger, and thunder can be heard more frequently)

Xtreme: Well this is just friggin’ great…hey cameraman do you have a light on that thing?

(The cameraman turns the light on his camera on and it illuminates the room. Xtreme gets up and heads into the kitchen. He returns a few seconds later with three flashlights. He hands one to Jake and Ambre, who, in turn, turn them on. Ambre holds up the flashlight and continues to read her book and Jake begins to look frantically around)

Jake: I’m afraid of the dark, Xtreme…

Xtreme: What do you mean you’re afraid of the dark? It’s dark in here when you go to sleep, isn’t it?

Jake: No because I leave the TV on before I go to sleep.

Xtreme: No wonder my electricity bill has been so high…

Jake: Can’t you make them come back on?

Xtreme: Yes, Jake, I’ll use my magical powers and make the lights come back on.

Jake: Well can’t you do something?

Xtreme: There’s not much I can do besides going to the basement and messing with the electrical box, but Mitch is probably already on top of it.

Jake: Since when was the last time Mitch ever did anything when he was supposed to?

(Xtreme silently thinks for a moment and says)

Xtreme: You’re right, let’s go down to the basement.

Jake: Wait…what do you mean…me go down to the basement too?

Xtreme: Well yeah, Jake, that’s kinda what I had in mind since you want the damn power back on so much.

Jake: But Xtreme…the basement is scary enough during the day when there’s electricity and it’s night time now and there’s a big storm outside…

Xtreme: Oh don’t be such a baby, Jake, you’re coming with me. You want the power back on, you’ll have to come too.

Jake: Fine then…but I’m not gonna like it.

Xtreme: Do I look like I care? Now come on, let’s go.

(Jake grumbles and grudgingly gets up off the couch. Ambre does not look up and continues to read her book as Xtreme and Jake exit the apartment and head down the stairs in the darkness. They both still have their flashlights but the rest of the hallways and stairwells are pitch black. They make their way to the bottom floor and exit the building and make their way around the back to the basement entrance, all the while the storm is still raging. Xtreme gets to the heavy door and muscles it open. The hinges are still very rusted and hard to move. Jake rushes into the basement to get out of the rain but immediately stops once he realizes it’s darker in the basement than it is outside. The basement has a musty smell to it because of all the wetness outside and has the feeling of crypt…very dark and silent. Xtreme has to push Jake out of the way and begins to look around for the circuit breaker. Xtreme trips over something on the floor and drops his flashlight. It goes out and Xtreme gets up and dusts himself off. He looks for it briefly but can’t find it. He turns to Jake to get his flashlight but Jake is still frozen where Xtreme pushed him to. Xtreme walks over to him and grabs his flashlight. This surprises Jake and he finally says something)

Jake: Hey, what are you doing!

Xtreme: I dropped my flashlight and I can’t find it. I need yours.

(Jake holds firm on his flashlight)

Jake: No you can’t have it!

Xtreme: Damnit, Jake, let go with the death grip! I need the flashlight! You want me to find the circuit breaker or not?!

Jake: Fine…but when I die it’s your fault!

Xtreme: What are you talking about, Jake? It’s just dark down here, that’s all.

(Just then a noise comes from the farthest side of the basement. This first noise is followed by a loud crash and Jake yelps and hides behind Xtreme)

Jake: What was that?!

Xtreme: Um…a rat…yeah that’s it, a rat.

Jake: A rat doesn’t make that much noise, Xtreme.

Xtreme: It knocked something over.

Jake: Why don’t I believe you, Xtreme?

(Xtreme turns around to face Jake)

Xtreme: Look, Jake, do you think I wanted to come down here? Do you think I want to be in this smelly, dark basement? No, but I came down here to try and get the lights back on because you’re more scared of the dark than a second grade girl! So stop your whining so I can find the circuit breaker and get out of here!

(Jake shuts his mouth and says nothing more. Xtreme turns around again and but out of nowhere, Mitch the landlord is standing right in front of him. It startles Xtreme and Jake and they begin to yell. Mitch, startled by their startled screaming, begins to yell too)

Xtreme: AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

Jake: AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

Mitch: AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! What in the blue hell are you two’s doin’ down here?

Xtreme: This little girl over here is afraid of the dark and wanted me to try and get the lights back on.

Jake: Hey…

Mitch: Don’t bother trying, I just did. The lightnin’ out der is really screwin’ things up.

Xtreme: See Jake, I told you coming down here was just a big waste of my time.

Jake: Yeah…I guess so…let’s go…

Xtreme: What about my flashlight?

Jake: Just leave it…I want to get out of here.

Xtreme: Fine, you big baby, let’s go.

(Jake turns and walks toward the door as Xtreme and Mitch follow him and the scene fades out to black)
