Author: Xtreme
Subject: Welcome to the suburbs, where the grass is green...

(The scene opens in Xtreme's apartment midday around eleven or twelve. It is a cool day and Xtreme has the windows and screen door in his apartment open. Xtreme is standing on his porch drinking a frosty brew, watching the kids play below and taking in the decent weather that Philadelphia has been experiencing. Suddenly Jake runs in through Xtreme's front door and presses himself up against it; almost as is trying to barricade it from something. Xtreme comes a runnin' when he hears the door slam to see what the problem is. Jake's chest is heaving up and down and he stares at Xtreme. Xtreme is the first to speak up)

Xtreme: Damnit, Jake...what've you done now.

Jake: You gotta hide me, Xtreme!

Xtreme: Hide you from what!

(Suddenly Xtreme can hear the angry voice of Mitch, the landlord coming up the stairs. Xtreme looks at Jake with a solemn face and Jake looks back)

Jake: I'll explain soon, but for right now just hide me!

(Xtreme rolls his eyes and listens to Mitch's yells getting closer and closer with every step. Xtreme senses the urgency in Jake's gaze and looks around his apartment. He points to his bedroom and says)

Xtreme: Go hide under my bed. I won't let Mitch far enough in to look back there but hide under my bed just in case.

(Jake runs off to Xtreme's room and wedges himself in between the bed and the floor. Mitch can be heard getting closer and closer until he reaches the door of Xtreme's apartment and starts to pound on it)

Mitch: Open dis damn door! Open it!

(Xtreme waits a moment before opening it to seem as if we wasn't expecting Mitch)

Xtreme: Well, hello Mitch, what a pleasant surprise.

Mitch: Yeah it is a pleasant surprise Mr. wrestling man. Where's Jake?

Xtreme: Oh, I don't know. Why are you looking for him?

Mitch: That little moron broke my TV! My portable TV, the one thing that brings me joy and happiness in the mornin' is gone!

Xtreme: Did he now? Well, I haven't seen him in a few hours but if I do, I'll let him know you dropped by.

Mitch: You do dat...and you tell Jake that when I catch him, I'm gonna drop him off the top of the FRICKIN' building!

(Mitch turns and slams the door and walks heavily back down the stairs. Jake gets out from under the bed and makes his way back into the living room with Xtreme. He looks worried, he must have heard everything that Mitch said)

Jake: The top of the building! Do you think he means it?

Xtreme: Jake...explain to me what you were doing with Mitch's TV and how in the hell you broke it! You know he loves that TV! He always is watching it!

Jake: I know, I know...but I never watched a portable TV and I saw it sitting there on his desk so I decided to watch it for a minute.

Xtreme: Its the same as a regular TV! Only...smaller!

Jake: I know, but it was just intriguing to me to watch it. Then out of nowhere Mitch bursts into his office and scares the poop out of me. I drop the TV and Mitch yelled like I had just dropped a ton of bricks on his nads. The only thing I could think to do was run back to here. Mitch stayed for a minute to survey the damage but quickly gave chase. He's pretty fast for an old Italian dude.

Xtreme: Jake...what possessed you to even go into his office by yourself? Whether he was there or not, never go into his office!

Jake: I know, Xtreme, but now he'll be looking for me and he'll murder me when he finds me!

Xtreme: Yes, Jake, yes he will.

Jake: You've got to help me, Xtreme! You have to!

Xtreme: I don't think so, Jake. You have to learn to take responsibility for your actions.

Jake: I understand what you're saying but this is Mitch we're talking about! He seriously will drop me off the top of the building for doing this. He's not going to make me work for him until I can buy him another TV or make me learn the error of my ways...he WILL kill me!

Xtreme: You're right, Jake...Mitch WILL kill you if he finds you. We need to hide out somewhere for a while, where Mitch can't find us.

(The two go into deep thought for a few minutes. At one point, Jake raises his hand and looks like he has an idea, but closes his mouth, realizing he didn't have a plan or his plan would not have worked. Then, suddenly Xtreme grabs Jake by the shoulder and says)

Xtreme: I've got it! We can hide out at my parents house for a few days until Mitch cools off...in the suburbs!

(The suburbs? Where the grass is green, the air isn't as full of pollution, the roads aren't always busy...why wouldn't they want to go there? The scene fades out to black but then fades back in to Jake and Xtreme cruising down the highway. They are not near the city now and must be near the suburbs where Xtreme's parents live. Jake turns to Xtreme and says)

Jake: I have to thank you, Xtreme, for getting me out of there without Mitch seeing me; and for agreeing to hide me.

Xtreme: No problem, buddy. Just don't ever mess with Mitch again.

Jake: You didn't have to come with me, you know. I could've been fine on my own. Besides you shouldn't have to be worrying about me, you've got a couple of big matches coming up don't you?

Xtreme: Jake you wouldn't survive on your own without me, but yes, I do have some big matches coming up, particularly with Skylar Thomas. I may have been able to defeat Michael Merlin last week, but Merlin is nothing compared to the challenge Thomas presents. Sure, I've beaten Thomas in the past too, but I know he will be more than eager to get into the ring with me again. He went on for hours and hours about how I was nothing more than a stepping stone to him, and how I was just another rung on the ladder for him...when in fact it was quite the opposite. Ever since I won my Colosseum championship, I have been more in the spotlight than ever. I main evented last weeks Insurrection and this week I will be in the second main event, and have a chance to go after even more gold. It seems, Skylar, that you were a stepping stone for ME. Ever since I have allied myself with the boss, Mr. Storm, I have been on a tare of epic proportions and I do not intend to let a man I have beaten once already stop me. True, I will be a little spent when it comes time for our match because I will have already fought, and won hopefully, another match earlier in the night. But that is no matter...I look forward to the challenge of two fights in one night. I look forward to seeing if my body is capable of fighting off two well known tag teams and a man who will most certainly try to destroy me. I know you are looking forward to our match, Thomas. I know you are waiting with baited breath for another chance to get at me. In your proud mind, I did not just pin you at To The Max...I made a fool of you and in reality, that is just what I did. Here is this mid carder, a man who no one thought would even have made it as far as he did, who goes on to pin a man who many consider to be a legend in the GWA. A man who could someday make it into the GWA Hall Of Fame, was pinned by a man many considered to not even be a contender. How did you feel when you were flat on your shoulders listening to the 1-2-3 and looking at my grinning face as I was announced the winner? Were you sad? Were you angry? Were you distraught? I know you know how I felt...even though you were viciously stomping away on my face...trying to snuff out all traces of life in my body...it was the best I felt in years. In that moment when I was declared the winner over "The Assassin" Skylar Thomas, I knew my time had finally come...my ship had finally come in. I knew with this victory under my belt, I would have all the confidence I needed to win my first GWA championship and take on all contenders for it...including you, Thomas. How does it feel to be the underdog, for once? How does it feel to know that going in a championship match, all the odds are against you. Sure, you are a former Maximus and Olympic champion, but how long ago was that? About two years I believe. Two years? Is that the best "The Assassin" can do? I already hold a win over you; I hold the championship...I'd say the odds and the people are in my favor, wouldn't you? You, Thomas, are the odd man out here and it is you the people will be looking at to see if you can pull a win out...not me. The people already know I can beat you...I already know I can beat you. So what's going to stop me from beating you again? How much better could you have gotten in two short weeks, Skylar? Not better enough to beat me, that's how much. Did you even have a match last week? Were you out there busting your ass to put on a good show? Hell no! You were at home licking your wounds and whining and complaining to anyone that would listen about how you got screwed in our match. I don't know what else there is for me to say about Mr. Thomas today other than he better get his act in gear because if he loses to me again...he might as well RETIRE.

(Xtreme pauses, and takes in the surrounding. He takes in a deep breath and then exhales)

Xtreme: But even before I step into the ring with Skylar Thomas, I must do the will of Mr. Storm and tag with Assassin to try and get a shot at the Legion titles. Mr. Storm has told me that the Violent Femmes have held the tag titles for too long without any worthy competitors and has decided to send two of his own to make sure the belts have good owners...specifically me and Assassin. Assassin has held the tag team championships before, and knows how it feels to be a Legion champion. I, on the other hand, have had much less experience with tag matches than he, but I am confident that I will be more than able enough to compete in a tag match. I've competed with the best here in the GWA, so a little thing like a tag team match should not trip me up to bad. Besides, look at who Assassin and I have to face. The Union, Daher and Goliath, and The Usual Suspects, Ali and Craven. Do any of these men pose threats to me? Umm...no, not quite. Goliath couldn't beat a girl in the semi-finals of the Colosseum tournament to get the chance to face me in the finals. Daher, I really don't know much...nor care about. The Union is an old and tired group of wrestlers who are doing all they can to hang on to the last bit of glory they can get their hands on in the GWA. Its almost pathetic, watching these men who have been in the GWA since the beginning of time, try to compete with the future...like me and Assassin. I am Mr. Storm's Chosen Champion, and I will prove him right for dropping that loser Chris Carpenter like a sack of potatoes and picking me. I have always had this potential and I just needed someone to help me bring it out and Mr. Storm was that man. He gave me the shot I needed and the confidence in myself to bring home the gold and now he has given me, along with Assassin, the chance to win more gold. Assassin and I have more than enough experience and desire to defeat these two jokes of tag teams and get the #1 contender shot for the Legion titles. It would be nice to have more gold around my waist...in fact I want more gold around my waist. Not just for looks, but to show everyone who said Xtreme would never amount to anything that Xtreme has finally amounted to something...and amounted to a hell of a lot at that. When was the last time this federation has seen a double champion? I'm not too sure, but they are about to see one very soon because I do not intend to let this opportunity slip through my grasp. True, I will have other things on my mind at Insurrection, but I will not let that distract me from my task at hand. And before I do battle with Skylar Thomas, Assassin and I will dispatch of two meager tag teams and give the Violent Femmes a little something to worry themselves about. I know I am already not on the best ground with the Circle or the Violent Femmes, but that just adds to the excitement for me and for everyone when the Assassin and I take the Legion titles away from the Violent Femmes and place them around our far more deserving waists. XTREME HAS SPOKEN.

(Xtreme continues to drive and exits the highway. He drives a little deeper into the suburbs until he comes upon the same house he and Jake went to for a barbeque a few weeks ago. Jake and Xtreme pick up small bags from the backseat of Xtreme's car and walk up to the door. Xtreme rings the bell and a few seconds later, is answered by Xtreme's mom)

Mom: Who is it...Xtreme, what are you doing here? Are you in trouble with the law again? You're not in trouble with the Mafia again, are you??

Xtreme: No, ma, I'm not in trouble with the law again and I was never in trouble with the Mafia! You must be thinking of one of your soap operas.

Mom: So why are you here then?

Xtreme: Why do you sound so accusing? Can't a son stop by to say hello to his mother?

Mom: If you were dropping by, you wouldn't have Jake with you and you both wouldn't have full duffel bags with you.

Xtreme: Ah, ma, I can't hide anything from you. We need to stay here for a while...

Mom: Stay here? Are you sure you're not in trouble with the law or anything like that?

Xtreme: I'm fairly sure, mother. Jake here made the landlord a little angry and now we need to stay here a few days until he cools off.

Mom: You mean that nice Mitch fellow? What did you do to him, Jake?

Jake: Well, I had just returned from reading stories to homeless children at the shelter and...

Mom: So what really happened Jake?

Jake: Ok...I was walking by his office and I saw his portable TV in there, and no Mitch. Make a long story short, I broke Mitch's TV and now he wants to break my neck.

Mom: Well I can see why! Mitch always had that thing with him...but I suppose you two can stay here for a few days, just as long as you don't make that much mess. Jake can stay in the guest room. Xtreme, go show him where to put his things.

(Xtreme and Jake walk in the house and up the stairs which are right near the door. Jake follows Xtreme up and turns to his left and goes straight into what used to be a storage room for random things. Xtreme's parents have fixed it up into a small bedroom now and Jake puts his things down on the floor next to the bed and follows Xtreme into Xtreme's old room. There is now a queen sized bed in there with a TV and a E-Z chair in the corner. Xtreme sets his bag down on the bed and heads back downstairs and into the living room where Xtreme's mom is watching TV and knitting a sweater or a blanket or something. Xtreme sits down next to her on the couch and Jake sits on the love seat perpendicular to the couch)

Xtreme: So mom, whatcha making?

Mom: A quilt for mine and your father's bed. It doesn't look like much now, but it will look like the one on your old bed when I'm done.

Xtreme: So where is dad anyway? I didn't see his car out front.

Mom: Oh he went out to Home Depot to try and find ceiling tiles for the basement. We had a plumbing leak and a couple tiles down there got ruined so he went out to try and find new ones to replace the damaged ones.

Xtreme: Sounds exciting. What happened with the plumbing?

Mom: The drain pipe from the kitchen sink was cracked and was dripping all the water that was in the sink into the basement.

Xtreme: Ah, I see.

Mom: So Xtreme, how are you doing with your wrestling?

Xtreme: Pretty good. I'm the GWA Colosseum champion now.

Mom: Oh really? Did you bring your belt for me to see?

Xtreme: Well there's this little punk who stole my belt right after I won it at To The Max and attacked me but I know who did it now. This week I'm going to get back my belt and make him pay for stealing it.

Mom: Who did it? Who is being mean to you? Is it that Lost Worlds boy? I never liked him!

Xtreme: No, mom, Lost didn't do it. It was this loser named OutLaw who can't accept the fact that he lost to me at To The Max and cries about it everyday because he is a little girl. And I can take care of myself, mom. I'm twenty six!

Mom: Xtreme, you should try and be nicer to your little friends.

Xtreme: They aren't little and they aren't my friends. OutLaw is going pay for making an ass of me last week and at To The Max.

Mom: Watch your language, young man! This isn't your trashy TV show!

Xtreme: Sorry, mom. This OutLaw guy just really irritates me and next week at Insurrection I will personally make sure he never messes with me or Mr. Storm again.

Mom: That’s nice, dear. Could you run upstairs and get me some more yarn? I'm running out...you know where it is right?

Xtreme: Sure thing, mom.

(As Xtreme gets up to get his mom some more yarn for her quilt, the scene fades out to black)
