Since day one of this war perpetrated against the United States I have been continually hearing things I don’t want to hear! I was not pleased to hear that the hijackers were using cell phones freely to communicate, because I knew as soon as I heard it the terrorists would no longer be using cell phones to freely communicate.
I was dismayed to hear the m.o. for the hijackers right down to box cutters, knives and red bandana’s because that meant the terrorists would need to create a new m.o. and would no longer be using box cutters, knives and red bandana’s. (Which, for anyone who is wondering, is easier to find and fight than chemical and biological weapons.)
I was scared to hear that fighter pilots were covering the northeastern United States because that meant the terrorists are aware the rest of the United States is not being covered by fighter pilots patrolling the skies for our safety. Could not the media have just left it at, ‘there are fighter pilots patrolling the sky for our safety?’
I was disappointed to hear about the life and death decision George W. had to make being judged by so-called objective reporters on CNN. It is a horror and relief that the plane went down rather than killing more innocent lives other than those on the plane, and everyone agrees the men on the plane were heroic. But if George W. made the same courageous choice, it is awful? Why are the American people being asked to make a moral decision about this - and without setting it in the proper context??
I was concerned for the safety of other nations when I heard that Pakistan is going to have to confront the Taliban because they support terrorists and now may not wait to attack Pakistan. I mean, is there a U.S. presence in Pakistan–if they have truly decided to work with us–to protect them against Afghanistan? I would be pleased to find out there was something I had not heard.
Rumsfeld chastised the media just the other day for their loose lips that will sink ships, and lose lives. Rather than allowing the terrorists to become comfortable, complacent, and sloppy, we are telling them precisely where and when to keep a head’s up.
I am afraid that this will be a televised war. Those not involved don’t need to hear about it, know about it while it’s happening, or see it happening. War is not pretty. War is not clean. It is time to come out of the sandbox and smell the coffee beans of life. Let’s not be unrealistic. At the very least understand the basic concept that if we hear it, Bin Laden heard it too, and shut up! Because, I don’t want to hear about it. I want no more American lives lost unnecessarily.
And so, the next time the media wants to tell us when and where we will attack, where the President is, what security measures for our safety are being taken, I have one piece of advice: I don’t want to hear about it! I’ve watched the news all week, Americans will win if we support our defense department, and quit acting like a nation of spies acting against their own interests.
Sincerely,
