A great weekend at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Houston, Texas ended with two new stars on the Texas landscape.

The new Miss Texas United States 2002 is Gina Ferrer, 27, of College Station, Texas. She also won the awards for Best In Swimsuit, Best in Fashion, and Best in Evening Gown. She is a graduate student at Texas A&M University, majoring in Architecture. Gina is the daughter of Lt. Col (ret) Angel Ferrer and Aracely Ferrer, M.D.

The first runner up, Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality was Miss San Antonio Kristin Housley. The second runner up was Miss North Texas LaDacher Jackson. LaDacher also won a few awards. She received Miss Ticket Sales and Audience Choice. The third runner up Miss Austin Tarah Bartley and fourth runner up was Miss Gulf Coast Hilary Kennedy.

The newly crowned Miss Texas United States Teen 2002 is Krystal McKown, 17, who competed as Miss Padre Island Teen. She also won the awards for Best in Swimsuit, Best in Fashion, and Intrnet Choice. Krystal is a senior at Flour Bluff High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. She is the daughter of Capt. (USN) Clarence and Deborah McKown.

The first runner up was Miss El Paso Teen Misty Gonzalez; second runner up and winner of Best in Evening Gown was Miss Austin Teen Kristin Jarret; third runner up was Miss Rio Grande Teen Dana Thornton; and fourth runner up was Miss Central Texas Teen Jessica Long.

The remaining teen semifinalists were: Miss Katy Teen Sabrina Hubbard; Miss South Texas Tiffany Saylor (who also won the Miss Teen Photogenic award) ; Miss Houston Teen Larissa Taylor; Miss Burnet County Teen Skylar Saenz; and Miss Gulf Coast Teen Kristi Borges.
