Sugar, maybe someone here can give you a full synopsis of how the ep went down, but to give you an answer to that flashback thing, it is Darla who saves him. After that there's a fight scene with a majority of female vamps fighting and getting stakesd in the process. I do believe this is the first time that we ever see female vamps getting so involved in a fight. Oddly enbough, I was disappointed that those girls were staked.

BTW, the way Darla shoots that flaming crossbow reminded me of Buffy whenever she wants to make a grand enterance, which lends credence to another theory, that Buffy was a Darla clone.
