One of these mornings, I'll awaken from my shocking life
and your scented calogne will be just a memory of strife.
The irony of you, was you were too close; yet not close enough.
You said that you loved me, but then, loving me was tough.

You called me your angel, and then said "Please fly away."
I didn't know if I should leave you, of if I should stay.
I spent so many tear-filled nights with your picture in my heart.
I hugged the pillow next to me, too painful to be apart.

If I had to compare you to one thing, a mermaid you would be.
Forever elusive, a secret known only by the darkest sea.
When will you come around again? Was I just lucky to spot you from shore?
I wish you would return to me, and try to love me once more.

You always contradicted every phrase you'd ever say.
You told me that you loved me so, and then refused to stay.
Do you think about me now? We're miles and dreams apart.
The irony of you now, you still linger in my heart.

Sometimes, in the morning's halo, I think I hear you smile.
I think I feel you whisper... I'm dazzled all the while.
I'd probably do my hair if I knew you were just ten miles away.
I'd probably trip over my feet, and then you'd be on your way.

Please tell me what this angel did to make you retreat into the sea.
Did my wings frighten you... Was there something wrong with me?
You made a big splash in my heart, it's something that will never fade.
I pray to God to make it whole, and let me fly away.
