slipping away

she slipped into his hands,
out of his life,
his mermaid of ice.
just out of reach,
still she was too close,
he, not close enough.

that shocking february morning,
fever burning…
her fragrance his warning.
sensing double glares,
she eats his steel nerves alive.
he awakens
to her scented sheets,
a token of her rejection.

steam rising
from the passion flowerbed they shared…
he unclearly remembers
through nightmare of obscure gray
words of the love she knew from him,
“come closer
turn around,
the irony of you…
please fly away”.

erupting
that shocking february morning,
spinning,
struck by realization …
he clings to her melted memories.
she slipped away.
perspiration beads tingle his skull.
burned again
by the sought after heat
of her hell.
