Bait
The man who stepped forward
opened
his sand paper hands.
The secrets of the tarot brought to life
the emotional scandal
written
from fingertip to wrist,
as thick as basketball netting.
The nemesis’s lips caressed the slits
that were the man’s
vulnerable scars.
She tested his death and honor
with a tainted breath over
porcupine haired knuckles
and he lost the battle again.
The bones of the dead were
resurrected,
but splintered
like a pterodactyl wing
being crushed.
The impious woman
haunted
his awake hours,
like a grizzly tracking for
slaughter.
Man and woman would bite each other
and release similar venom
that wouldn’t kill, but drain
the life
out of the other in
a continuous tug of war
of pain.
