Subject: Aurora?

I stumbled across this site after trying to find information on a bizarre experience I have regularly had in the early hours of Sundays (1 to 3 am). I was twice awakened by a strange booming sound and have since sat up and waited for it to happen. I live not far from the coast in North West England no too far from Wharton Aerodrome and a stones throw (at mach 4 at least) from Machrihanish. At first upon telling friends I could not really describe the sound but upon reading reports it sounds like Aurora is certainly a possibility. "Like the sky is being torn apart" is one such description. It certainly could pass as a multiple sonic boom! Just wondering if anyone in the region has had a similar experience, many of my friends have heard it so I aint insane. Also over the last decade or so there have been literally hundreds of "black triangle" sightings in the area, my sister and best friend among them although both claim it was low and silent....no boom or engine noise. Just looking for a bit of clarification! Incidentally I have never seen anything, just heard the noise!
