Ok, what sort of planes are they then? Small single engined Cessna's, military fighter jets, or airliner size aircraft?

By saying the aircraft are unmarked you must have observed them through binoculars. What colour are they? I would be fascinated to see a picture of one of these aircraft so I could identify the aircraft type. Post a web address so we can all view the image and make up our own minds.

As an Air Traffic Controller with many years experience in both Tower and Radar environments I've never heard of such nonsense.
