Regine Velasquez Takes Europe by Storm
by Crispina Martinez-Belen
Right after her and Ogie Alcasid's super successful Valentine concert at
the Araneta Coliseum, Regine Velasquez flew to Europe to fulfill a series
of singing engagements. The diva's concert tour started in Stadhalle Wein
in Vienna last Feb. 21, after which she proceeded to Grughalle Essen,
Germany on Feb. 27. These were followed by other memorable performances in
Jarhunderthalle, Frankfurt, Germany (Feb.28) and Kongresshaus, Zurich,
Switzerland (Feb. 29). And needless to say, the Songbird took these cities
by storm!
Before she left, Regine said: "I'm so excited to go to Europe, to see our
hardworking kababayans there. It brings me so much happiness just by
thinking that I'm bringing a part of the Philippines to them."
On March 12, Regine will be reunited with her Valentine date, hit
songwriter Ogie Alcasid, in the repeat of their Valentine concert "The
Songbird and the Songwriter...Journey of Love...Music to Remember," also at
the Araneta Coliseum. This is in answer to insistent public clamor for a
repeat of their very successful Valentine show.
And then, the well-loved tandem will fly to the U.S. for their North
American Tour of the same show. On March 20, they will be in Los Angeles;
March 27, San Francisco; March 28, Las Vegas; April 2, Atlantic City; April
4, Washington D.C.; April 7, Chicago; and April 24, Canada. They will also
make a stop in Guam on May 1.
Included in the repertoire of the Songbird-Songwriter Tour are
"Urong-Sulong," "Dito sa Puso Ko," "Dadalhin," "Sa Piling Mo," "Nandito
Ako," "Ako'y Iyong-Iyo," "All My Life," "Bongga Ka Day," "Huwag Ka Lang
Mawawala," "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw," "Pangarap Ko ang Ibigin Ka," "Pangako"
and "Hanggang Ngayon" among others.
Now managed by Aria Productions, Inc., Regine said "2003 was such a fun and
a fulfilling year for me." An understatement of course considering that
among her achievements last year include a number of hit concerts like the
Valentine shows with Michel Legrand, the back-to-back tour with Martin
Nievera, and the annual series at Onstage, "Songbird Sings Streisand." She
also released a pair of chartbusters (the "Pangarap Ko ang Ibigin Ka"
soundtrack and the "Greatest Hits" compilation under Viva Records).
On the big screen, Regine also headlined two top-grossing films: "Pangarap
Ko ang Ibigin Ka" and "Captain Barbell."
"But, I think 2004 will even be more fun and fulfilling!" she concluded.
