"Songbird Sings Streisand" Concert Review (November 14th)

After having dinner at Yoshinoya, my friend and I went directly to Onstage, braving the light shower and the rush of people shopping for Christmas gifts...

Got there around 9. Saw Mang Gerry en route to the restroom. After relieving myself, we went inside the concert venue. I was here a week ago attending a symposium that Ayala Company sponsored.

Anyhoo, back to my story. The stage was covered with the usual red curtain. A chair is placed in front with a libretto stand. The place was 75% full when we got there...

People watching was done while waiting for the concert to start. Around 9:40, the light was dimmed then entered Regine. She sang "As If We Never Said Goodbye". Spotlight was turned on after the first few stanzas. Wow! She's beautiful tonight... She's wearing a black gown with some silver patterns... and the tail of her gown was flowing with ruffles of the same color. First time to see such a gown--designed by Rajo, of course...

Next song was "Everybody says Don't". The rest of the stage was revealed. White curtains were used as backdrop. Candelabras (just like in the Broadway, "Phantom of the Opera", were used as accessories). White Christmas lights were used to accentuate the stage too....

She also sang "My Heart Belongs to Me" and "Kiss me in the Rain".

She segued to a medley of Gibb composition, "Guilty" and "A Woman in Love".

A medley of "A Star is Born" ("Evergreen" was included ) was highlighted with a slightly new arrangement of Mr. Mitra.

She left the stage. A projector was turned on to show Barbra clips. This showed the fascinating career of Barbra Streisand.

She returned wearing a very revealing white gown, the tail of which looked like something from a wedding dress...

"Don't Rain on my Parade" was interpreted nicely...

Duet songs like "You Don't Bring Me Flowers", "Till I Loved You" (with a guy named James from the audience), "I Finally Found Someone", and "All of my Life" were sung afterwards.

"The Way We Were" was interpreted twice. The second version was the rendition that wasn't included in the movie but since Reg liked it, she sang it here. The title of the song? "The Way We Weren't".

Songs from the Broadway album ("Send in the Clowns" was one of them) were rendered too.

Most of the songs of Regine tonight were new to some of her audience.

Am glad she sang again, "Places That Belong To You", from the movie "Prince of Tides". This is the song she sang in Sharon last Sunday.

"Enough is Enough" was the song she sang to introduce her band members.

The people were not that responsive. You can tell if Reg really appreciates her audience. She asked us if we were all tired. Somebody from the audience shouted, "Traffic!". Reg thanked her audience for being there inspite of the pouring rain...

"Somewhere" and "Memory" were rendered, minus the super birit part. I think she's still preserving her voice for tomorrow... Hehehehe...

Raul Mitra and Reg sang "Music of the Night". Beautiful, I must say!

"Songbird" was, of course, sung. She finished the whole song this time, unlike in her "Classics" concert.

For her finale, she sang songs from "Yentl". She had a chest brought in with a candle. She sat down, lit the candle, and enthralled her audience with "Papa, Can You Hear Me?". "The Way He Makes Me Feel" and "No Matter What Happens" were next. Final song was "A Piece of Sky". Wow!

As for her encore--this is the part where hordes of people went in front and brought out their cellphones with cameras and shot pictures of our beloved Songbird--she sang "People" and "On a Clear Day".

Cheers to THE and to our own Songbird!!!
