Traditionally, News stood for North, East, West and South. The verbal transmission of day to day events literaly came from the four corners of the (old) world, where distances were great and heroes were mighty.

One had to walk for a day and a half to get to a good tavern to here the storyteller pass on tales of bravery and deceit. In fact, a hearty meal and a pint of mead is sometimes all that people WOULD walk for.

One famous occurrence in norfolk, was where an entire village simply refused to walk anywhere except for strong mead. A mighty hero was called to help the unfortunates. He discovered that they were being psychicaly controlled by a lich (a powerful undead magician) from their local tavern. He battled the creature which resulted in much ichor and limbs and rending and fonging and blood!!!! Yes sweet blood for my master!! He rends your minds!! he will devour your souls !! you cannot defeat himm HAHAHAHAHa.

So. News. There you have it.
