Excuse the play on a Liz Phair lyric. I had the opportunity to stand around with Ashcroft in the lobby of Maryville Middle School in the spring of 2000. He is a rather vacuous individual, and I do recall his breath being a tad nauseous. I asked him if he enjoyed the trip up to Maryville. He replied with a spiel about enjoying the "farmland of Northwest Missouri" and missing his farm near Springfield.
I imagine his response would have been the same even if he had been involved in a 10-car collision on Hwy. 71.
So that's my superficial attack on Mr. Contrarian (states rights are good, unless it involves something I find to be "wrong," like medicinal mary-jane in cali.)
