Subject: Re: Why Berkeley?
In reply to: morton33 's message, "Why is that?" on 06/11/03 8:00am

The University of California began in Berkeley. UCLA was once known as The University of California AT Los Angeles.
What always grinds the true Bear Believers is the press (and the film industry) calling it "UC Berkeley".

They are "Cal", they are "The University of California Golden Bears", but the press still calls them "Berkeley".
Likewise, Oakland's "College of Arts & Crafts" located at the intersection of Broadway and College Avenue in Oakland has been changed to "Cal Arts Berkeley". Huh?

I prefer to call that town north of Oakland, (with that arm-pit "People's Park" )Berserkeley. And if we close of Monterey Street so the Court House employees can jaywalk across it to the new County Bldg, we'll soon resemble Berkeley and Santa Cruz with a special Monterey St. layover plaza for visiting transients.
