Sheridan College Update

Sheridan College enjoyed a terrific season in 2002-2003, and two primary reasons for the success were 6-7 combo forward Dontae Truitt and athletic 6-3 wing Chris Meeks.

Truitt, who hails from Baltimore, Md., is headed for Kentucky Wesleyan in the fall. This information was confirmed with Sheridan Head Coach Brian Marso.

As JUCO Junction has been reporting all year, Truitt was a prime Division II recruiting target due to his academic situation.

Truitt started 26 of the 28 games that he appeared in for the Generals, averaging 25.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He shot 61 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the three point arc.

"Offensively, he's very exiciting and has a lot of tools," Marso said in a previous interview. "He can post up and has improved his outside game."

"He's very athletic and is strong with the ball going to the rim," Marso continued. "He's not a great creator for others, but he is a great finisher."

As for Meeks, the athletic 6-3, 195 pound wing is still trying to sort some things out before transferring to a Division I school next fall.

Coach Marso told JUCO Junction that Meeks is trying to resolve a situation at Charlotte, where he walked-on in 2000-2001. Meeks is a native of Charlotte.

Meeks spent the 2001-2002 season at Independence C.C. in Kansas prior to transferring into Sheridan last fall.

Cal Poly SLO, Weber State, West Virginia and High Point are among the D-I programs looking at Meeks, Marso said.

Meeks started 22 of 30 games for the Generals, averaging 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest. He shot 42 percent from the floor, 37 percent from beyond the three point arc and 78 percent from the charity stripe.

"Chris is very athletic and really hits the offensive glass," Marso said in a previous interview. "He can shoot the ball too, but he's more of a catch and shoot guy who doesn't create off the dribble."
