Industrial technology is a discipline which gained prominence in the early 1960’s as the result of industrial demand for technical managers who could make informed decisions about managing work forces in the technical areas. Cal Poly’s Industrial Technology Department began in 1959 within the College of Engineering, and has the distinction of being the second Industrial Technology Department in this career area to receive accreditation by the National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT). Today the program serves as a model for California and the nation’s Industrial Technology program.

In the early 1960’s it became apparent that most corporate leaders had a good understanding of fiscal matters within their companies. On the other hand, they were becoming increasingly uneasy, sensing that the technological aspects of their products and services were requiring more technical understanding on the part of their managers. They correctly deduced that this phenomena was the direct result of a lack of understanding in the use, management, and pervasive effects of technology. Therefore, requests by business and industry leaders were the impetus for the movement by academe to produce graduates that not only had an understanding of leadership, but also of the technological nature of the business world. Although areas of business such as acquisitions, mergers, and other fiscal concerns are very important, they are not the focus of Industrial Technology, except as they effect the ability of a company to develop and utilize modern technology for growth and development. Industrial Technology provides the focus for Cal Poly students who have the desire to specialize in industrial and technical areas and to become individuals who are at the forefront of interfacing work forces and technology.

I don't see how that fits into the College of Ag at all.
